6 Month Hoggie weighs 6 grams...

Hi everyone,
I've had this hognose for 2 months. She weighed 4 grams when I got her. To make a long story short, she ate great the first few weeks and then stopped eating. I've been told it's just the weather and they are picky eaters. But she is loosing weight. She had gotten up to 8 grams and is now down to 6. I have discovered her ambient temps are low and may be causing her fasting- I only have an under tank heater with thermostat on her small critter keeper. I keep my house cool, so she is probably cool too.

So I'm posting to see if you all thought this idea will work. I have a ceramic heat emitter with a dimmer and I have a digital thermometer as well as an infrared thermometer. Will the heat emitter do the trick to raise the ambient air temps? How is she supposed to escape the heat and cool off if needed? Or does ambient stay that certain temp throughout the entire cage?

I hope all that makes sense. Thank you for any advice!

Sorry this advice is so late! I hope your tiny hoggie is still okay.

You need to get your hoggie a bigger cage, my guess is that there is no way to regulate the temperature well in a small critter keeper. Hognose are not picky eaters usually, but they can insist on bruminating if their air temps drop. Get an at least 5 gallon glass tank but not bigger than 10, place the under tank heater on one side, place the ceramic bulb with dimmer over that end to raise the air temp to around 75 and still allow for a 75 degree cool side.
