Sorry about all these hoops to jump through, but I am quite serious about blocking spammers and scammers at the gate on this site and am doing the very best that I can to that effect. Transporting animals through the state.
Well, here's a question that has popped into my mind several times:
If someone is driving down from Florida to say, North Carolina with a van filled with corn snakes and passes through Georgia, which does not allow the possession of corn snakes, are they in violation of Georgia state law while on the road within that state?

My common sense tells me no, but knowing the way things have been going lately, I'd say the state probably says yes.

In Arizona you can transport prohibited species through the State and you are allowed to stop for up to 72 hrs. I would assume this to be the case in most States. I checked the Georgia DNR website and I could not find anything there about it. I would give them a call but good luck there...lol

georgia can be a tricky monster, i live here, i am moving, most likely your safe, but we have alot of silly cops they wouild probably hold them at gunpoint and cavity search each one, i am not kidding, its really odd. i would just have your dealer or buisiness info right on top of everything with the scientific names of the contents as most dnr agents arent available and dont do science thay just know how much to fine for that there thing,oh yea and they will kill the snakes if found in violation, seriously!d

We also live in Ga.. You are not allowed to transport illegal animals thru Ga.. I have had a few run-ins with the DNR here,,and let me say,," every single one that i have met are complete idiots"...and believe me,,we have met quite a few.. We actually very recently had an encounter with DNR at our home,,and the first officer that showed up was not clear on animals,,so he called in one of their ""experts"".. We had a tub with baby sulcatta torts in it,,,and their idiot "expert" swore up one side and down the other that those were baby gopher torts... I mean literally,,swore they were gophers..
He did however, know his rattlers...However,,he didnt even know the law on rattlers.. The DNR "no-no" list states that Crotalus are legal..Then the next page states ""only native venomous"" may be kept,,and then the very next page states ""absolutely NO PIT VIPERS""..
Another thing that makes it so bad,,they run up in your home like they were the DEA,,and you were known to have 50 kilos of coke in your house...
But you can bet your ass on one thing... if you have a cobra or gaboon,,,they will take your butt to jail in a heartbeat...
As far as the corns go,,i dont think they would say anything...Hell,,,most of them dont even know the difference.. We actually convinced this ""expert"" that a normal corn was actually a emoryi rat....How funny is that.. He knew it was a corn,,and still didnt take it..
I think the laws in Ga. are quite stupid,,as do most other people..
Rich,,,i would not worry about the corn issue...If youhave a Florida drivers license,,and a Florida reptile license,,,i dont think they would hassle you very much..

they changes the laws on owning venomous in georgia, no on except zoos, they do destroy the animals in question, yes they are dumb! a friend of mine owns a pet store he called the dnr about african giant snails, they said yea no prob, he got them in sold some, was raided by the usda of all people in a farce sting, made him freeze the snails some were 6-7inches, d

Calling all fellow snake lovers in GA!
I belive there is enough corn snake and eastern king snake affificianados in Ga to get the crazy laws changed. Also the pet trade is really suffering here. One of the number one selling snakes is a corn snake! We need to do something about it and fast before you know it we will not be able to keep anything at this rate.

As far as i know
its been attempted a few times, the DNR simply states they don't have the financial resources to pursue the claim, funny thing is, if I am correct they dont make laws, they enforce them, if anyone wants to set up a formal petition , we could start sending it around, the trick is it has to be on a specific snake, i.e. cornsnake.I do think it needs to be clear that its for c.b. only , and does not allow the catching of wild snakes as thats not the goal here. From that step it could be branched out. I think it would be benificial to all breeders, and stores country wide to push for this as it could add the 10th largest populated state to their possible buyers, we could see if Rick would/could set up a sign in or something , and it could be a blanket petition, they would be handwritten, but signatures none the less?

our first meeting will be next sunday. how are far are you from douglasville? also we are brain storming for the corn snake petition, once one is finalized then it will be sent to people who want to help. i know some ppl who wouldnt move to ga once they found out about the corn snake dilema
do you think we could get it changed?
