Fox snake taxonomy

A month or so ago I saw an ad on KS classifieds listing a Fox snake for sale (don't recall if it was eastern or western) but instead of Elaphe vulpina, they had something not even close listed as the scientific name. I tried to go back and look for it but I couldn't find it. Has there been a taxonomic change in the classification of fox snakes recently?

What you probably saw was the Eastern fox snake, which is now a full species.

Depending on whether or not the generic name change takes hold, the Eastern fox is Pantherophis gloydi or Elaphe gloydi

You are right, It was probably the E. Fox which is now classified as Pantherophis gloydi (or some similar spelling) which is why I didn't recognize it. I wasn't aware of the Genus change and I am more familiar with the western subspecies so I didn't recognize the gloydi part.

Thanks for the quick response Ken
