At John L.

Darn good post John! An interesting angle indeed. Very good reason for Jerry to take extreme quarantine measures when he gets the animals back.

Gee Jerry???

You sure have alot of time to spend on BOI for endless rants/responses. Don't you have someone's money to repay, a sick mother, and two kids to take care of instead of wasting your time on BOI?

update

These are pics of the 2 het females taken this morning. They both shed last night. It was their 4th shed each since receiving them and the problems began.

Just a reminder as to what this thread is to me. I purchased some snakes that I am not happy with. I don't know what their problem is and it would appear from this thread that nobody else really knows for certain either. But that is beside the point because I don't want them and have asked for a refund. Jerry has agreed to give me a full refund so I am hopeful that will happen.

Thanks Tony...
I was tired of seeing the same bashing from the zonata experts as from those that don't even know what a zonata is...lol

I believe Jerry is doing the right thing.
I also believe that Stu's zonata do have symptoms of ZD, but I don't know, nor does ANYONE know how they got it.
I also believe it is possible that it can be reversed, but maybe not after a month.

Melissa,

if I may take the liberty of answering that question for Matt, he picked up his snakes from me personally about a week or so before I'd sent Stu his animals. =)

Jerry
Are they clutch mates? And/or keep in the same area as the ones Stu has?
Matt's look fine from the pictures.

If it is not ZD, could it be a difference in altitude and/or general air humidity? As you live on the east coast & Stu is in Texas? I am very curious about this. And I really do hope the snakes recover.

That is good news.

I agree though with a few other posters, Jerry when someone has concerns it is best to address them right away. Otherwise, BOI threads happen. I am glad everything seems to be working out though.

Jerry,
So is Stu sending the snakes back to you? If so is he getting replacements or a refund? Are you going to be quarantining your collection? I know that not much is known about Zonata disease but if I were in your shoes I won't let anything leave my collection for a minimum of six months from the last symptoms because I won't want to risk anyones collection. I realize it might not be Zonata disease but the snakes are exhibiting the symptoms so far.

Oh and by the way I would also recommend that Stu quarantines his collection now as well unless they were located in a different location with no cross contamination.

With Show Me's advice above 100%

ZD or not, due to the sensitivity of these snakes and the unknown factors of possible disease, this is a very good reminder. While a good keeper quarantines ALL new stock coming in (or should), by the time the possibility of a unknown disease that could be contagious is thought to be present cross contamination has usually had time to happen (washing water/soaking bowls in the same sink, neglecting to wash hands just once, swapping cage lids/hides after washing in same said sink)

I also agree with the 6 month statement Show Me made, the info I read on different conditions (including ZD), all showed large variations in self correcting skin problems and disease incubation times (4-12 months varying per condition and/or disease and individual snake) so Jerry, just to er on the side of caution I would keep these 6 snakes in quarantine for 12 months and document the progress. I say this because in fact it could help put more documentation out there on these beautiful creatures and things that try and wipe them out. If they have a full awesome recovery you have step by step documentation to go with them and posting that somewhere (here @ Fauna of course is my vote lol) could really help someone with similar issues and keep them from destroying a collection on a maybe...(tho at risk of an entire collection I myself would go on that "maybe"). And if for some chance it is ZD and they don't make it, log photograph and save snakes everything and send the info to a university or someone that can further research this and with more knowledge of it find a way to prevent or at least treat it.

Hi Christina,

yes, I will be getting these snakes back once Stu is refunded in-full by month end. I plan on keeping these animals separate, meaning at the OTHER end of the house, yet keep them as I originally did post-hatch up until I sent them to him. Luckily I won't have anything available zonata-wise until WAY after 6 months from now, so thats not something I'm too worried about with respect to time. As far as advising others about this matter that several specimens were in-question and what that means for all my others which demonstrate nothing more than optimal health....well....probably Obama knows by now. =) Either way I don't feel it is this dreaded ZD, however I will treat these specimens as such and see how they progress over time. Glass is half-full as far as I'm concerned -- the Giants won and baseball season is right around the corner. Party-on Garth!
