So it is possible that both tortoises are still alive?
Buyer, can you post proof of death, or a vet report, or something?

So for all we know both animals are still alive and he's trying to scam. However, I find it more likely that they are both dead. I'm not a tortoise expert by any means, but I checked the temps in West Palm Beach during the relevant time frame, and they didn't seem warm enough (55-75). The leopard tortoise care sheets I've read suggest that no part of the enclosure should be less than 75, and that a hot spot of 95 is required. No wonder the animal stopped eating. Since Rod doesn't deny that he kept them outside at least during the day, this seems pretty cut and dried.

This is where I'm getting the Palm Beach temps from:

This is the caresheet by Jerry Fife, published in Reptiles magazine, which mentions correct temps for leopard tortoises:

I don’t honestly think that he is scaming.
But I am very confident he didn’t care for them properly, he should just learn, and move on. I have done mistakes with reptiles too, we all have, we learn from it. But we don’t turn this frustration into creating false accusations and nonsense assumptions, trying to affect a business reputation.

Leopard tortoises do not hibernate. In parts of their range they may experience freezing temperatures and seek shelter in animal burrows, but in most of their range they experience a much narrower range of temperatures. Generally that’s between 70 and 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

I also don't think you scammed me Francisco. I think what happened what unfortunate, I just don't think it was my fault.

Lucille, it's irrelevant. Why am I gonna keep posting to be called outlandish things? Forget it. Have Elena accuse me of being a scammer with no basis? Nah. This is the exact reason why people stay away from this post, no one wins. Regardless if it was my fault or Francisco it's been a crappy discussion.
