Thomas had a great idea there. I thought that this could be done without even mentioning Fauna so the issue of the 'differences' in the site need not be suggested.
I took it upon myself, suprise, to post the following on the Shipping forum. I was also going to post it on all major forums over there, but thought (after putting it on the boa forum) that it would most likely be delted since it was 'off topic'.

There has been a group of people that have got together and one in particular created a petition to be signed. This is for anyone who ships reptiles and/or amphibians via FedEx, Airborne, or UPS.
Our goal is to try and get the shipping community to recognize 'us' as a valid industry and for any or all of the above mentioned companies to allow us to ship or 'product' just like any other industry.
This is for the better of the herp community as a whole. Please go to the below link, read it, and if you feel compelled to, please sign it.
Thank you and let's all join together in this!

I also noticed it has been spread to BC Forums as well. Just more traffic that will see our sincerity in this matter.

shipping

I use UPS for shipping animals. when I set up my account with them I told them I would be shipping live harmless reptiles. They did not tell me of any restrictions. I have had no problems shipping snakes. I am also a verified shipper with delta, so I can ship delta dash if I need to.

When we set up our account with UPS we told them that we would be shipping live reptiles and amphibians. All they asked was if we shipped anything venomous; which we do not. We have had no problems with them, in fact they are trying to accomodate us with the latest pickup time available so the animals don't have to ride around in a hot truck. The UPS Service Guide states "UPS does not regulary provide service for packages containing live animals...UPS will only accept packages containing live animals for shipment within the United States on an exception basis..." However, it does not exclude snakes. I have also read the UPS Tariff and it also does not exclude snakes. I'm not sure if the UPS workers here are just easier to work with, but we have not had any problems with them. We are also verified shippers with Delta and Southwest Airlines. I definitely prefer to ship with Southwest than Delta. They are much easier to deal with and it only took 1 week to get verified with them. Delta took over 6 weeks. However we can only ship with Southwest if our orders do not contain snakes.

Just so people are clear about this -- I did not post what you claim I posted here on the BOI. Someone else has seen fit to take a a message I posted over a month ago on one of the kingsnake.com forums and copy it over here.

Future shipments

Mark me down as a future shipper. I don't really have a preference, but I would like the door to door option to be available.

Shipping

I live in TN. Down here ALL "shippers" do not allow snakes. Airbourne told me I could as long as the animal was non venomous. I shipped, they called the next day & told me to come & get my snake! They had opened the box. It was a Colombian boa.
Then, they (AB) sent me a registered letter stated I was "red flagged" & could no longer ship, nor receive from them.
So, I used my fathers address. They left 3 boxes (boas) out in a snow bank & never even knocked on the door !
After calling AB several times, the driver admitted, "he didn't have time to knock"

Fed EX ? I was sitting home waiting on a m.o. shipped out overnite. I had the front door opened starring out @ my drive way. Fed Ex never showed up. I went to track it. On the site,it stated, "delivery attempt @ 4:30, no one home
I have more horror stories. BUT I'd love to ship legally!
I signed the petition....can I do anything else?

PetCo, PetSmart, etc...

How do big pet stores ship snakes? We know they all carry them, and I doubt they ship delta, but maybe they do. Just curious?

There are also rather large bulk breeders of pet shop destined snakes out there. I would be curious to hear how they get their animals to the destinations as well.

I have noted that the petition is pretty lacking in participation from any of the REALLY major dealers in reptiles.

Has anyone brought this topic up with PIJAC? They might be able to help?
Just a thought.
