Finding Wildlife in Whitewater CA

I recently went to Whitewater Canyon, CA. A couple of people said it is a great place for sighting. When I went there I saw nothing. We went during the evening: flipped some boards and then cruised the roads at night. Is there something wrong with what I am doing. I would like to document and photograph them. Please help.

Thanks.

There are alot of guys on the Fieldherpers.com forum that frequent that area ,and post alot of reports from that area. From what I can gather,it gets awfully crowded there, and LE gets alot of busts for folks over collecting.

So. Cal. Snake hunter

You cant expect to find things every time. I have hunted whitewater rd. and a couple of others in that area for 15 years. I've talked to guys that have hunted whitewater since the 60's. And no one is lucky every night. You can find all kinds of things all year except winter but March-October is the time.If you go on a weekend you'll find up to 10 cars on that 5 mile road alone. Talk to thoes people and you'll see what they have caught that night and that should get you motivated to keep looking.Because other people always want to show what they have caught, you'll learn what time of night the snakes are out and at what temp. I've learned the best time in the summer is 8:45 till around 11PM. Snakes have been caught on cold windy nights after 3 hours of seeing nothing,so don't give up. ttyson86@aol.com
