Alec taylor - AT import/export from guyana Don't Make a Deal with Him!!!

Hello,
The first contact to Alec taylor from guyana for some reptiles was last winter.

As i check his website and Facebook and Google search, i think he was reliable, so i order some reptiles include CITES species.

Everything was going well, and i sent the first payment on this February.
But after i sent the payment, he replied my email slower and slower,
and when i complained to him cause of CITES Permit, he just keep saying have to wait Guyana gov's act and just wait for a weeks.

But he said before, it takes only a week.

So i wait for him almost 2 months, so i said to him if he need more time for CITES permit, send me the non-CITES species first.

But he said it's cause of Guyana wild life department didn't open the for export, any animals can't export right now. And also, he already complain to the gov, so he will wait for some weeks and if it doesn't work, take action to the gov.

So one more month passed, i was totally give up with this order, i can't delay anymore and because of him, i lost many customers. So i said i want refund or give me some options.

and that's when he start to just watch the message and didn't give me a any reply. It's been 2 weeks.

I check the news about Guyana wild life dept's mass up so maybe it's true, but he makes me lost almost 4 month and my customers, have any solution or options for it, and now ignore my message and didn't refund my payment.

I don't care that Alec Taylor is Scam or Dealer, but i'm sure he is the one that shouldn't make a deal with it.

Guyana is closed still, many of us who import from there are waiting as well for it to open, usually opens around March but something happened I think 2 members of export association were kicked off. So trying to find replacements that the government can approve I think.
He probably didnt scam you, but is waiting like all the other exporters to get quota.

OP, when you placed the order did the importer give you firm "receive by" dates or was it just implied? Obviously an order can't be stalled forever and the seller expect to keep the money, but imports are more complicated than other orders and there are more parties involved, so the seller can't always help the delays that they face. All the seller can really do is keep the buyer informed on the progress, unless specific dates or time frames were stated in the purchase agreement that give you defined rights to a refund. I've been strung along before, unintentionally, by a seller who was also being strung along by their exporter. It can be frustrating, but it is a risk that comes with the potential reward of access to species not easily obtainable in our own counties.

Do you have any paperwork or emails/messages showing what the purchase agreement was?

This is spot on. It also sounds like the OP is buying these to resell. There's nothing wrong with that BUT if he sold them to his local customers without having them in-hand, that's a black mark on him. I also deal with stuff where government regulations and paperwork can create delays - sometimes up to a year before I receive the product - and I never advertise or sell that product until I physically have it. That keeps my reputation intact.

Very good point! The importer could be in the same boat as the OP right now, stuck waiting on someone else they have no control over to fulfill commitments to their customers. The OP at least had the benefit of knowing it was an import order so delays could be expected, I hope his customers had the same benefit. (No dig on the OP either, having your funds tied up and being excited about an order is frustrating. I just don't know that it requires a bad guy tag)

Perhaps you could just post the email where he said it would only be a week. Bueller...Bueller...
