Unidentified snake

Found this guy dead on the road on a walk the other day and couldn't figure out what it is. We have plenty of garters but I've never seen something like this. Keeseville Ny local

Definitely not a garter. I'm not sure what native snakes are found in your area but I would say eastern milk snake Lampropeltis triangulum triangulum

Yeah, I would vote on eastern milk snake, too. Looks like he had a very bad day, though.

The three most likely are eastern milk, neonate black racer, and neonate black rat. From the distribution maps I see for NY, the racer is out, and the rat is a possibility, as the range comes up close to Essex county

Definitely a eastern milk snake in my opinion.

It's a juvenile C. constrictor (Black Racer).

No, the others were correct, it's an Eastern Milk snake.

Ahh. I believe you're correct. Upon further inspection, the patterning does more closely resemble that of an eastern milk.
