Breeding W. Hognose Snakes

My pair of Western Hognose are about 3 years old, and this is the first year they have bred. I surprisingly got 9 eggs from my female. Sadly all were ruined when I sent the incubator crashing to the floor about 3 weeks after they were laid. A week or so later all were dead save one. Hopefully that one will survive. My Baird's rat Snake eggs seemed to fare better, and I only lost two of them in the fall to the floor. (What a shame.)

I am curious to determine to chances of double clutching in Western Hognose. Is it usual for Western Hognose to double clutch? The female has regained all her pre-gravid weight, and then quite a bit more so I am not concerned that she would not do well if she double clutched.

A couple of a breeder friends of mine have double clutched but that was it out of all the others that did not. He has gotten one or two to do that out of all the years he has been breeding. All his other colubrids sure you bet, they double for him every year.

Yes, you can double clutch Western Hognoses. I've done it several times with a fat female. Quite often, this female would lay a second clutch without having been re-bred with the male. The second clutches were always smaller and not all of the eggs would be viable. So, go ahead and try.
