Baby Eastern Box with gaps in between scutes...HELP!
I have a several month old baby EBT that has gaps in between the scutes on its shell and slight curling at the back edges. I feed it a diet of meal worms/protein every other day alternated with veggies, greens and some fruit. I use calcium supplements and vitamin supplements with each feeding and allow the little guy several hours of basking almost every day. Its appetite is great with the worms/protein, but it does not eat a lot of veggies/greens/etc that I can see. The gaps are not exposing bone or flesh and do not have any sort of fluid or anything, but I am extremely concerned. Does anyone have any ideas what I should do?
Shell problems to me indicate too little sun, Vitamin D, calcium, etc., but the shell is hard and not brittle. I was also thinking that it could be too much protein because babies tend to grow too quickly and maybe the shell isn't keeping up?
The baby was a surprise that appeared one day in the enclosure with my adults. A rescue I rehabbed was so mangled that I thought it was a male and not a female and she laid one egg in the plant in their enclosure. It was a great surprise, but I don't have experience with little ones. Please help!
