Please note that the information requested during registration will be used to determine your legitimacy as a participant of this site. As such, any information you provide that is determined to be false, inaccurate, misleading, or highly suspicious will result in your registration being rejected. This is designed to try to discourage as much as possible those spammers and scammers that tend to plague sites of this nature, to the detriment of all the legitimate members trying to enjoy the features this site provides for them.
Of particular importance is the REQUIREMENT that you provide your REAL full name upon registering. Sorry, but this is not like other sites where anonymity is more the rule.
Also your TRUE location is important. If the location you enter in your profile field does not match the location of your registration IP address, then your registration will be rejected. As such, I strongly urge registrants to avoid using a VPN service to register, as they are often used by spammers and scammers, and as such will be blocked when discovered when auditing new registrations.
Sorry about all these hoops to jump through, but I am quite serious about blocking spammers and scammers at the gate on this site and am doing the very best that I can to that effect. Trust me, I would rather be doing more interesting things with my time, and wouldn't be making this effort if I didn't think it was worthwhile.

Special Needs RES
Hello, I have an Adult female RES that needs a good home. I work at a Nature Center and she was left outside our building in a tubberware container. She is a very big girl and I think she may have had a prolapse because in the container they left her in there was what looked like a piece of her organ and she was bleeding for awhile. I didn't think she would live but I have had her for 7 months and she has become more active and eating but I think she will need a shallow tank she doesn't seem to swim very well. I do not have the room for her since I have 8 of my own turtles. She most likely needs to see a vet but I do not have the money to take her since I have to take my own animals(all rescues). I have been trying to find a rescue to take her but there are none that I can find near me, if you know any please let me know or if you are willing to give this girl a good home let me know. She is free since she needs to see a vet and I can not ship her so you must be able to pick her up in NJ or I will try to meet you.
Thanks,
Katie

Well this girl is still here and eating well. I increased the amount of water she is in to a little over 1 foot and she is swimming alot better and basking normally. She has been here for about 8 months and seems like she will be okay but I do not have the room for her and would love to find her a loving home.

UPDATE
I have had this girl for 9 months now and she is still eating well. She is on a diet of mazori and reptomin pellets, veggies and greens and Papaya for a treat. Since I have no room for this poor girl she is in a rubbermaid 33'' x 22'' container which is NO where near big enough for her and I feel really bad especially considering she didn't have great care in the past she deserves a better future, but it is the best I can do. I have tried rescues but noone has room for her.

What makes her special needs? Has she had any difficulties from the condition you found her in?
They're illegal in OR so I can't take her, but if she's not really special needs, maybe removing that bit might help find her a home.

The reason I have special needs is because I'm pretty sure she had a prolapsed oragn which tore off while she was sitting in the container before I found her. So she really needs to see a vet but it is something I can't so since my rescues have special needs and I don't work in the winter. I thought she was going to die for the longest time but she is doing well and is eatting and deficating with no problems. I thought a prolapsed organ that ripped off would be a death sentence but some how she seems to have repared her self or something it's really odd.
I even tried calling Wildlife, Fish and Game and they couldn't help me so I'm stuck with this girl and I can't care for her the way she needs to be cared for. I don't have the room with all my turtles and Igs.

Thanks, I really don't want to ship her, one because I'd have to use UPS and two because I think it is a bit too stressful for her but I will consider it if I can't find anyone closer.

is there a park pond or something where they sell pellets to the public to feed the fish maybe you could turn her loose there, alot of those places have turtles in them. and with her size most people would put her in a pond anyway. more room and natural sunlight what else could a res ask for. just a thought good luck.

I know I'm a little picky for having so many conditions but I have reasons for not wanting her outside and not releasing her, I'm very against releasing captive animals. RESs are not native to NJ so I would not want to add anymore to the growing populations. She is also not a good swimmer which is another reason I don't want her to be outside in a pond. She does go outside in the summer but in a baby pool with mesh over it to keep animals out. Thanks for the suggestion though.
