Just curious whether or not anyone calibrates their hydrometers before using them? I took forgranted that the hydrometers I'd been using all these years were just accurate out of the package. A while back a friend got me interested in cigars and when I got my first humidor I tested my hydrometer ($6.00 from Wal-Mart, like the one's I'd used for my herps) it was off by 15%
. Holy crap, made me wonder about my other hydrometers. Sure enough they were off by anywhere from 5-10%. Not that I've had a problem with any of my herps, but kind of makes you wonder what kind of frustrating issues could have happened.
