PARAMIXO VIRUS WARNING for anyone who has purchased from Tim Bowles!

I feel with collections possibly at stake that this needs to be seen by all who have purchased any snake from Tim Bowles of Arboreals of the Rainforest! I am sure that most of you have read the other Tim Bowles thread but this needs special attention!

WARNING! EVERYONE PLEASE READ THIS!


The snake tested positive for PARAMIXO VIRUS Tim! Do you have any idea what that is? It is probably the most horrific disease this animal could have had. It is definately one of the deadliest diseases and ABSOLUTELY THE MOST CONTAGEOUS! Even more contageous than IBD! There is the possibility Tim that your entire collection had/has it seeing how contageous it is!

I STRONGLY URGE ANYONE WHO HAS PURCHASED A SNAKE FROM TIM BOWLES OF ARBOREALS OF THE RAINFOREST TO EITHER GET THE ANIMAL PURCHASED FROM TIM AWAY FROM YOUR COLLECTION OR IF IT IS IN QUARANTINE TO KEEP IT THERE AND CONTACT YOUR VET AND HAVE A PARAMIXO TEST DONE IMMEDIATELY! YES TIM EVEN YOU SHOULD HAVE THE REST OF YOUR ANIMALS CHECKED!

The virus can be contracted through fliuds from the mouth, fecal matter, urates, blood, feeding tongs, water bowls, handling, substrate, and the scariest of all airborn if the animal sneezes or coughs! Read up on the virus it is 100% fatal and has been known to wipe out entire collections in zoos and in the private sector.

Is this why you were selling your collection Tim? Now that you are here and have read all of this.....do you still think all of this occured during shipping as you and your wife told me on the phone? Do you still feel that a full refund including vet bills in not due to me? You endangered my entire collection...is that what you wanted?

I am VERY serious about the potential danger of people loosing their entire collections so take the proper precautions guys!

This isn't only limited to the emeralds but also the chondros that were sold.

Tim...you were very mad at me for returning a 'Basin' that arrived with a respitory infection and a bashed up face, mad at me for not giving you a dark phase male emerald at cost, and mad at me for repremanding you and trying to talk you out of screwing some guy out the emerald he wanted just because someone else was willing to paypal before the other guys check arrived. Even though you said you could probably talk the guy who sent his money via mail into buying another it was still wrong. Did all of this anger come to a head and is that why you did this?

Were you aware that any of the animals in your collection had Paramixo Virus?

Is this what was causing the resp. infection in the 'Basin' you sent me?

Why were you getting out of all of your snakes so quickly? You seem to like the arboreals enough to have a 'corallus' gathering at your house....just doesn't make sense.

If you are man enough to post a BS post like you did yesterday you certainly should have the guts to answer some questions about our deal and the condition you sent the snake in. Or maybe not.

It's kind of ironic......I was repeatedly warned about you but never expected it becuse we seemed to get along. I think every snake was sent to you without a penny up front and you taking months to pay and this is what I got in return, two purchases from you for $6,000.00 and two bad animals. It was nobel of you to return my first $3,500.00 for the bad 'Basin' though...I guess.

I all of a sudden remembered that measles was caused by paramyxo virus.

is that the same as paramyx?
is that the same as paramixo?

If this is the case....
it would be interesting to know how it mutates to cause rash in chidlren and pneumonia in snakes.

And if it is the same virus...does it have the same modes of transportation? I believe measles can be airborne right? does this mean paramyxo is airborne?

Now if it is the same virus.....then again I guess it just affects the different species differently.

Like herpes B virus in monkies is pretty harmless.
In humans it is deadly.

Ritchie.. I found an interesting link that links this virus to the family of mumps, measels and such. Also, from what I have read.. researches initially believed SARS came from this virus as well

Earlier this year I had a scare with some WC Western Hognose I purchased from a dealer in Florida. I keep quite a few hognose but had these 4 WC in quarantine. They all died of symptoms similar to this virus but I unfortunately froze the corpses which rendered testing ineffective. I was informed if anything shows any signs to get it tested immediately. Enough can not be said for quarantining all herps. I now keep new herps quarantined for no less then 6 months. Prior to this incident it was only 3 months.

I am fairly certain I read in one of these threads that it is indeed airborne, Which is very scary as that would mean extreme measures would have had to been taken to prevent the spread of it. I have seen a lot of referances to entire collections being lost, I am currently in the middle of quite a few trades and am trying to find all the info I can. ( maybe I am a little paranoid but I cant help it ).
Does anyone know how common it is? Does it usualy originate in WC specimens? Thanks

Must have been the CDC who thought it came from paramyxo. Judging from pictures I have seen it does look to be a form of Corona. But who knows. I am no expert and I may have said to much already.


Anyway I was thinking paramyxo has to be airborne because when someone has the measles......don't we all try to stay out of the same room? Shoot. we specially do not want pregnant moms in the same room as someone who possibly has measles.

Problem is like all Virus's(Plural) it can change......... I had a problem with this Virus in 1988 came from rattlesnakes that were long term in a collection... they had no active virus but, were carriers.....nerologic in symptoms...I.E. stargazing disease...Wiped out over 3/4 of my pit viper collection. 1989....New problem same symptoms....Had advanced into boas and pythons...This was confirmed by vet Scott Stahl. Had to clear out ALL cages. 100% bleach did not work. Animals had to be put down.....NOT A GOOD THING!!! COST YEARS OF WORK!!! NAME OF PERSON WAS LARRY RAUCH IN VA. I'm not saying that if he is in the bus now that he has bad animals.. This was a new thing then. JUST BE CAREFUL!!!Just a quick undetailed synopsis...
