In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I ordered two uro's from them and I must say communication, packaging, and animals were all superb!!!
Great people to deal with and you can tell they take pride in their animals.

I can't remember the owner's name off the top of my head...I think it's "Doug". Anyway, he is a great guy. I have talked with him at a few shows and picked up some veileds from him. Awesome Uro's, too.

I'd recommend him to anyone.

Gee now how smart was that to post a good guy thread and not put down his name, lol
Douglas Dix and he is a great guy to do business with!!

I agree -- Doug Dix is a wonderful person to do business with and extremely knowledgeable about his animals. I've seen his facility and it is exceptionally clean. I've purchased uros from him, and I see him at our local show every year. I would not hestitate to recommend him to anyone!

I have been purchasing from Doug for at least 6-7 years now. I just purchased Blue Tongue Skinks from him last weekend. Doug is old school class. The best of the best. He knows his critters like no one else. There isnt a better Uromastyx breeder out there. These skinks are at the top of my list too.

Very helpful, very informative. He just hooked me up with a wa. local small exotic mammal breeder. His suggestions for my new store options were fantastic.

Quality animals and quality guy! As always, thanks Doug!

Doug Dix of Deer Fern Farms is excellent to work with. I recently purchased a Uromastyx from him and I am very happy with the new addition to my collection. Doug is the most knowledgeable uro keeper I've ever met, and has produced a good number of captive bred Uros and Chuckwallas, among other animals. He also has a PhD in wildlife toxicology. Doug Dix = GOOD GUY!

When I rescued my first uro, douglas we nice enough to answer many questions of mine to help me.

He was very patient and helpful, even though I was not purchasing from him.

I too have had great success with Dr. Dix, I have gotten his "second pick" Merauke BTS several times. The one thing I have to add is that Dr. Dix is still well immersed in the "old school" in some things. This can often lead to great success, and has for him, but I think that some of his keeping processes could certainly be modernized a bit. Although I already knew Blueys fairly well at the time of my first purchase from him, Dr. Dix was absolutely insistent that the best diet for Blue-Tongues was a high quality dog food . Although I am not saying this is entirely incorrect (although I would do it differently) , I may hesitate to recommend him to a first time keeper who would believe everything they here from an expert like Dr. Dix. Overall though his animals are of the highest quality around, and his table is absolutely always the most crowded with customers at the local shows at which he is a vendor.

Just a little fact about "ol" Doug dix.... yea I like malis too! After looking for almost a year I wanted to scream.. I was having NO luck finding 4 nice large mali females for my stud! Out of the blue I get a call from Doug asking if I still wanted the 4 females I was wanting last year? Heck yea I did! I couldn't belive after only sending Doug one email about females he came to me OVER A YEAR later and had 4! All 4 were awesome and prewormed for me at my request. . . Doug, you da man!

Completed an order with Dr. Dix and could not be more pleased. Two unrelated specimens of hard to find Uros in immaculate condition and larger than expected. Packed extremely well too. Very happy!

I’ll vouch for Doug Dix (Deer fern Farms) any day! I have had the pleasure of dealing with him on several occasions and have met him in person many times. His animals are top notch!! Doug is a stand up guy who is extremely knowledgeable with the many types of reptiles that he breeds and is an example of the much needed business model that we need in this industry! GOOD GUY POST WELL DESERVED!

Has anyone had any more recent dealings with these folks? I'm really interested in a few things they have.

Bobby,
You won't have a single problem dealing with Doug Dix at Deer Fern Farms.

Doug is one of the BEST and so are his critters, we need more like him.

Hope this helps!

Definitely a person I don't have problems dealing with. Doug Dix is an honest and knowledgeable guy. You won't have any problems with him.

I just received a red Saharan female from Doug. It arrived in great shape and he answered a bunch of e-mails with my newbie questions, before and after I bought a Uro from him. Great guy.

I just wanted to chime in as Doug is semi-local to me.
I haven't purchased from him yet, but I have talked with him extensively at shows about specific locality chucks that I am looking for, and he has been a pleasure. Knowledgeable, friendly and happy to help.
Also: he's very, very nice and patient with everyone who comes to his table from all I have seen. Great with kids and parents, not just folks who he can sell an animal to.

This is my first time posting, after lurking for a few years, but Doug Dix is one of the best people in the industry that i have met, I have bought Morrocans, Ornates and Malis and my most recent purchase from him has been a calico Chuckwalla, who is now a beast. Doug is always happy to answer questions and stands behind his animals. He has even offered to help me with animals i bought from him about five years ago, I cant wait to check out his Bengals.

Sigh... I went to Mr. Dix's site at deerfernfarms.com but you can't order yet as he is still allowing his animals to settle after his move from WA to FL. Glad to see all these positive things about him though as it confirms he's well worth the wait. :D
