Adult female leopcata (pardalis X sulcata hybrid)

0.1 leopcata (pardalis X sulcata hybrid) 50% possible het for the ivory (leucistic sulcata) gene

$4000 shipped (if I agree to ship)

$3150 if meeting within a few hours of Tampa or Ocala

She is my pet and has been for years, so she can stay with me if that is the way the wind blows. I am considering parting with her because I have been consolidating my tortoise projects over time and I can devote more resources to other animals if I remove one large animal that fits into no particular species-based project from the stable. Shipping for this animal will be tricky for me. Meeting up for a hand-off is preferable.

Lives quasi-naturalistically here in terms of her pen space with two meadow sections (one large and one small), a forested area, and a large burrow (she is unlikely to dig a burrow, but she will readily use one if provided and does sometimes make scrapes/pallets when bedding down). She eats everything. Weeds, grasses, fungi, tree leaves, a variety of fruits, a variety of pellets, grocery-store-style produce, aquatic plants I collect from small "safe" (no dumping or chemical treatments) ponds owned by myself or friends, and occasionally something like a fish or whole eggs if she finds them or has them handed to her. She will eat carrion when one of the hawks makes a mistake and drops its kill, but she does not appear to be an active hunter (small birds and lizards feel safe enough to hang out on her back at times and racers will bask near or even against her, so she is not a murder machine like my phayrei can be; phayrei will actively hunt, kill, and eat all of these things). You should have a large and preferably planted enclosure ready. Supplemental heat and an adequate shelter is imperative if there is any kind of colder weather in your environment. She can do fine in Central Florida and further South without these accommodations, but keepers in much of the US would need these to adequately care for her. Even in my environment, the exact way I have her pen set up provides buffering from extremes, so the geographical area alone may not do the job well enough without landscaping modifications.

She is approximately 23" scl these days. She is sexually mature and has laid once (in 2014 and the entire clutch was eaten by another tortoise plucking them out of the nest as she laid them...save for half of an egg), but finding a male of any species that she responds to is not as easy as dropping it into her territory. Her sire is a South African pardalis and her dam is a sulcata that is 100% het for the ivory gene (hence this animal is a 50% possible het). She is very bold at times and can be dominant (she is great at stabbing me in my fingers' nail beds when I have to inspect her thoroughly...yay). She would accept advances and attention from my main male ivory sulcata (Big Whitey) back when both she and he lived in Missouri, but has not been as crazy about her options since I moved her to FL in 2015 and moved my male to another property. I treat her mainly as a pet, but she can be incorporated into a project with the right male. I was going to get a cool new male for her last year, but the deal for that particular male never materialized and I have other priorities. I do not recommend a male leopard or sulcata as the suitor unless you are aiming to prove her out as a possible carrier of the ivory gene and you have a Fife line ivory male sulcata handy. Simply makes more sense to keep that which is different different (or make it even more different) rather than creating something more blended at 75%/25% and having it pass for something pure to people who cannot distinguish between already obvious different species like telling a sulcata from a desert tortoise (or a box turtle from a yniphora - yes, this has happened and yes, I am confident that there was divine weeping as a result).

Any buyer is expected to have done his/her research prior to making contact, as it shows intellectual investment in the well-being of the animal(s).

TOS:

Shipping and LAG:

I ship via Reptile Express (which utilizes Fed-Ex). If there is adverse weather involved, we will wait for a safer shipping window as warranted. Contact me at nickolasanastasiou at yahoo dot com if you are interested in purchasing. I offer a live arrival guarantee if you are present to receive. If there is a DOA situation, I expect multiple hi-res photos adequately displaying the condition within an hour of receipt (and I may require the corpse/corpses to be sent back to me; you will be compensated for this if it happens). If there is a discrepancy in description, I expect to be made aware of it within the day it is received (in which case, I will issue you a full refund upon safe return of the animal/animals to me). Animals under 4" scl are not sold as pets. Contiguous 48 only (I actually can ship to HI or AK, but there may be additional costs involved that the buyer would have to cover).

Shipping is about $50 most of the time. Sometimes I save two bucks and sometimes I lose ten over the included number, so $50 is what I settle at for smaller animals. I suppose I could meet up with someone closer and chop the shipping off, but it would have to be a convenient location for me and I am ONLY chopping the shipping off for a meet-up. The distance you traverse has zero bearing on this cost reduction. Larger animals cost a heap more to ship, so that incorporated cost is steeper.

Contact:

Email me at nickolasanastasiou at yahoo dot com if you are interested in purchasing. I am usually busy between work, perhaps school, care for my menagerie, more work, family stuff, and yet more work, so email works best for me. Deal discussions are to be conducted through email. Since I use Fauna private messages for site-related communications, I am unlikely to respond to PMs about animals in my ads. It also implies the person either did not read or did not care about what was written. Not paying attention to this leaves me with the impression that the interest is not serious.

Payment:

All non-local sale prices have shipping cost, packaging, and any miscellaneous fees/costs built in for buyer convenience except where otherwise indicated (usually for much larger individuals). What you see is what you get. Payment plans are no longer accepted. If only a portion of the total due is sent to me and I have not explicitly agreed to that, I reserve the right to refund you and refuse sale. If an offer is made and I accept it with a time frame involved for payment, a lapse of said time frame without any delivery of payment typically means the agreement has been invalidated (for example, if you say you are going to pay me [amount] on [date] and I agree to that, the deal is basically void if [date] passes and payment has not been sent) unless we both agree to the renegotiation of the payment window and there are no communication deficits.

Sexing:

Unsexed animals, probable sexes, and temp-sexed animals have no associated guarantees as to a specific sex. A probable male/female appears to be so at the time, but has not necessarily reached full maturity, so there is room for error. A TSF or TSM label is subject to the performance of accurate TSD and that is a shift of probability in favor of a particular sex (it often works out, but occasionally does not; such is the chance we all take). A guaranteed sex is, as stated, guaranteed. If an animal of guaranteed sex ends up revealing itself to be not of the purchased and explicitly declared sex (with sufficient evidence sent to me) down the road, it can be returned to me in a healthy state for a full refund (the general practice) or, if you are attached emotionally, we may be able to do a partial refund based on current market prices while you retain the animal.

Trades:

I prefer sales to trades in almost all cases. Not seeking trades at this time beyond those specified. For trades sought, payment/cash can make up the difference on a case-by-case basis.

Nothing at this time.

Wanted (to purchase):

The following are animals I may consider acquiring, although I feel no rush to do so. If you have a matching animal you might like to sell, feel free to email me with details on background and pricing along with decent photos. I tend to fill project openings at my own pace and that pace is usually quickly, so what is wanted today could easily become of reduced or eliminated interest tomorrow as I obtain animals from various sources.

Nothing at this time.
