In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Wish me luck

It's 12am and I'm my way to the emergency room with one of my males, that I think may have over done it a little. Damn one track minds. He's prolapsed. :( I hope they don't have to amputate.

Dan,

I did do a sugar soak, and he soaked even more all the way to the emergency room, didn't know about Prep H...LOL. I've never had to deal with this before and I didn't want to do anything wrong. I also didn't want to wait too long, and have him castrated. You would want me to do that to you, would you? LOL

Well, the vet was great! He got it back in, but when he picked him up again to check on him, it popped back out. So they gassed the little guy and that took a while, cause he kept holding his breath...LOL He put one stitch in off to the side just to keep it in. I'll take him to my other vet in the morning and have her take a look at him. He's alert and happy to be home. Had to rearrange his tub thou. In case it pops back out, I placed a damp dish towel under, tamp paper towels then changed the moist hide to damp paper towel and removed his dry hide for tonight. This way if it does pop out, it won't dry up and cause more problems.

All I have to say is the $107 was well worth it, with me not knowing for sure what to do, or how long I should risk it being like that.

Tonya,

Prolapsed, is when the internal organs are coming out thru the vent. In this case it was his little wiener...LOL. It woudn't go back in, and this can cause big problems if not taken care of.

Felicia, No I wouldnt want that for the little guy!

It is good since you didnt know, but if it happens the best thing is just keep it moist, clean, do soakS (more than one), and Prep-H does work Im told. Then if you dont see improvement, a vet would be great.

I just know if its an 'emergency', can be a pain in the wallet. And you should be able to hold out for non-emergency for that, depending.

Well, glad everything came out ( or went back in) OK. LOL

Well, it was good. :( He pooped and it came out again....damn. I've got him soaking agian. At least it looks like the swelling is going down. I guess I'm staying up all night. :hot:

Ahhh, sorry to hear. Ide maybe call and see if the stitch will get in the way of it retracting(?)

I was calling before you even posted it...lol. Poor little guy.

One of my employees asked if I have him on Viagra...LOL

I took him back and the doctor took out the stitch so it wouldn't constrict him. He also gave me a referral to a very very good herp vet, not too far from me, and refunded the surgery charge. I called there at 6:45am to find out their hours and exact location, and someone answered, they were open already! I thought I would get an answering machine. Anyway I was telling the lady that answered what was wrong with the little guy and she put me on hold right away, as soon as she heard the word "prolapsed". When she came back she told me the Dr. said that it could be parasites that caused it or a few other things. At that point I stopped her and told her no that he was breeding, and told her about the emergency visit that I already had, she repeated it to the Dr., he stopped her and took the phone right out of her hand. Anyway the Dr. talked to me about what he would like to do to save his little wiener. He's in surgery all day but is planning on squeezing him in between each surgery, to work on him and check on progress. I've very please with this vet. He's one of those vets that you can see the passion he has about his specialty. He told me to bring him in and just to tell them at the front desk that he said it was ok. They went back and asked if he wanted to talk to me about my little guy. He stopped what he was doing and came right out. He took a look at my little guy and said the prognosis is good, no dead flesh and he should not have to amputate.

Mean while my husband, the non reptile person, is telling me, "Oh, he's just horny, it'll go down." LOL So I've been try to explain to him all morning how serious it could be.

Well, that's enough of me gabbing.

I'm off to take a nap!

I had a male blizzard prolapse on me last year and unfortunatly I did'nt catch it on time. I had to have them amputate it :bolt01: . I'll be keeping a closer eye on him this breeding season ( if I pair him at all). Hope all goes for the best in your situation and keep us updated.

Tonya,

A geckos penis is split in two and those to halves are called Hemipenes, in Shawn's little guys case they could not save one of the hemipenes, and it had to be removed. A gecko can still produce if one is removed.

It's not all that uncommon, but not an every day occurrence either. Sometimes it can correct itself, sometimes it needs help and other times there's nothing you can do but amputate. If the hemipenes starts to dry it can cause pain, discomfort, infection, and even death.

Since this was the first time I had ever had to deal with this, I didn't want to take any chances. This was an issue that I had read about when I first started and read up a lot after I found out that it could be deadly. Also so you know a female can be prolapsed too, it's just a little different, and just as serious if not more.

Males have two hemipenis ( buldges on either side of the vent ) used for reproduction. So now my male is down to one :bawling: , but still has his back-up to do the job. I have only had this happen to me once and hopefully never again. As far as what causes them to not retract I'm not sure( maybe it's just not ready to :smash: ).

Small update...

The Dr. called about 10am to let me know that the hemipenes is bruised up pretty bad but the tissue still looks pretty good considering. He wanted to make sure that I was able to confirm that the hemipenes was infact back inside when I left the emergency room, and in the correct place. I told him yes, I saw nothing outside when I got him home in his tub, and there were two bulges. He also in formed me that he did poop for him, and it was very nice looking. :) Current plan, get swelling down, knock him out, put back in and put a few stitches in.
