    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Are leucistic Black Rats pure or crossed with Texas Leucistic Rats?

This debate has been raging for years but I would like everyone's opinion here.

Interesting John. Why do say 100% sure? Not to pick a fight just interested in your knowledge of this because I have heard so may theories. Thanks!

I have been breeding Leucistic TR's since the mid 90's. I have also worked extensively with most other obsoleta ss. To the best of my knowledge, and I know most of the breeders who work with this species extensively, A pure Leucistic Black rat has never been produced / found.

I am also aware of several breeders who openly crossed the ss for two generations in the 90's and then marketed the 75% pure animals as 100% pure.

Since no one has ever claimed to have found / produced one in the recent past, I am 100% confident in my statement.

This is a similar situation to the proliferation of albino tri-color milk / king species. It's amazing how quickly they appeared once the Ruthven's and Nelsons popped up. You hear similar stories about Albino Pueblan's, Graybands etc....

Wow John thanks for the lesson on this. Someone had told there was a guy in Ohio(I think his name was Matt) I believe that had a wild caught leucistic black rat back in the 90s. There are so many stories out there and unscrupulous breeders I guess we will never know.

There supposedly was a wild caught snake from Ohio.The debate will go on forever as to the validity of it.We just went through a Leucistic thread from hell "elsewhere".My snakes where purchased as Leucistic BLACK RATS.I can not prove that they are for sure.I wish I could.I would not have knowingly bought texans.They bred last week.Next year I plan on breeding my female lucy to a giant long term captive normal blackrat male.I was told I should see some rustys from a lucy blackrat to normal blackrat pairing and that rustys are a visuall het. form of leucistic.
For what it's worth,each year I walk around the Hamburg Pa. show and compare what is marked black rat with what is marked texas rat (both lucys) and I can see a difference in head structure between the two.The texans having a larger head overall in length and width.Does this mean anything?I don't know.
It is said that Darren Bell aquired and bred the wild caught lucy from Ohio.

Thanks for the input Michael! This is exactly the debate I was speaking about.
