In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Is there a better option between the two? And which is usually prefered by Beardies?

My friend had a Chinese Water Dragon who TOTALLY ignored Black Crickets but loved Brown.

I have never seen black crickets available for purchase here in the states. I order just plain brown crickets. Although I am pretty sure a dragon would eat crickets no matter what color they were.

Another feeder option you could look into is feeder roaches. I have a colony of roaches that the dragons just go NUTS over. :)

Black Crickets

toodles is in the uk where he does have access to black crickets but in the us i think that i am the only breeder of black crickets and i can only ship to florida addresses for now. Gary

toodles, here are the two main diffrences between black and brown.
black are slower than the brown and are less likely to jump everywhere but they have harder shells to that of the brown. If you have a young beardie it is best to stick to the brown for a while just for the softer shell, although I have tried the balck and wow they are easier to deal with but ugly lol. Anyway I think they like the speed chase of the brown the black ones kinda stand a while and bds like to see there food move.

hope that helps.

Do the brown and black crickets taste differently to the dragons? Could these be used for variety purposes, like how one would use superworms? We contacted Gary from Native Crickets, really nice guy by the way :D, and he is sending us a sample box to see if our dragons take a liking to them. We never even knew black crickets were an option before reading this thread!

never tasted them myself lol but I suppose withthe added crunch they would be different and like I said they are slower and act a little different. they sell variety packs over here so I suppose it would seem that way.

We just got our shipment of black crickets today in the mail. You are right Trapieter. Those little critters are UUUUUUgly! They kind of look like roaches (shudder!) because they are so dark. But after seeing the adult black crickets, the adult brown crickets look sooo small! Now let's hope our dragons like them!!

My bearded dragon shows no preference what so ever. Personally I prefer the black crickets if only for the fact they don't seem to jump around as much as the brown.

My old Chinese Water Dragon ate both kinds when he was a baby then as he grew in to an adult, for some reason, he wouldn't even look at black crickets and would only eat brown.

and I thought you guys didn't love me :( lol sorry I didn't get a message saying there was a reply  never mind. yea they are beastly!!! urgghh
I pick most crickets up with hands if they escape... not those things!!

well hleb the other tactic you can use to slow the criks down is to stick them in the fridge for 15 mins, haha they don't jump then :D they go very slow for a while, but some beardies don't like that because they are cold. but I know alot of people do it and it does help. just make sure you get the right size, as tigres says the black tend to be a little bigger.

:) ok gonna check here myself from now on
