    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

How to move with Reptiles?

In the next month or so I plan to be moving to South Florida. It is a two day trip with one night at a motel/hotel. The truck and car that are going on the trip are not large enough to accommodate for all 9 reptiles. I currently have 2 Boas, 3 Ball Pythons, 3 African fat tail geckos, and a crested gecko. So my question is, what is the best way to pack these guys up for moving? I want them to be comfortable enough where the stress won't kill them but I also want them to be safe.

Also, a random question, why do snakes hiss? I googled it but didn't have much to go on as there is a book out there called this so it was a bunch of sale hits. I'm just curious because I got two 5ft red tail boas yesterday and the female makes noises sometimes that sound like hisses to me. It isn't very loud, and it doesn't sound threatening to me. She seems perfectly calm with being handled. But still, it peaked my interests so I figured I'd ask. Thanks everyone. ^^

I am about to do a similar move, 1200 miles over two days from RI to IL. For the three snakes I am putting each into a bag/pillow case, then each into some sort of either tote or stryo cooler, I havent decided yet. I have the totes that would work great, however the coolers will maintain the temps better.

I am going to have a probe in each container that will tell me the temps, I will be able to adjust heat/AC as needed. The hotel should be fairly simple, just need to set the temp and let it go. I am not going to worry about any extra heat, they should all be ok for a couple of days.

Hope that helps a bit.

Snakes make the hissing sound to warn it’s predators and its enemies that they are there and they may strike them or spat venom or attack them. The sound actually occurs as a volume of air is forced out of a small constricted airway of their throat and they don’t have nostrils.

AND

Snakes hiss to give a warning sign to any animal or person to make them aware that they are there and not to step on them. The hissing sound also signifies a warning to you to stay out of their territory. If you hear such sound then possibly run away from the place as it may strike you.

Wouldn't putting them in coolers mess up their day/night rotation schedule? Wouldn't I want to maybe put them in something clear during the day so the warmth can reach them and the light and then maybe something dark for at night?

I don't have probes sadly but my larger tank (55g) has thermometers and hygrometers. Would it be a good idea to package them up and then put everyone together securely in the tank? That way I can keep an eye on the heat and maybe switch them from one side to the other since I can cover one window of the truck to make a cool side. Just an idea.

I wouldnt worry about messing up their schedules. Most snakes prefer the dark anyway. You also dont want them to get too warm. I have heard about snakes over heating while being moved and dieing on the trip. I would not but them into and aquarium for the move, however that is your call on that one. I would seperate everyone and keep it dark. I would imagin it will keep them calmer that way as well.

By probe I meant a digital thermometer. The ones I use have a 6' cord on them to read outside temps. Hope that helps some.

Ah okay yeah that makes sense. The snakes are always hiding in the dark during the day anyway. Haha. Okay then, sounds good. That might be what I'll do. Thanks.
