VERNAL, Utah – A Utah man has been cited on a charge of disorderly conduct after paying for a disputed medical bill with 2,500 pennies.

The Deseret News of Salt Lake City reports Jason West went to Basin Clinic in Vernal on May 27 prepared to dispute an outstanding $25 bill.

Assistant Vernal Police Chief Keith Campbell says that after asking staff members whether they accepted cash, West dumped 2,500 pennies on the counter and demanded that staff count them.

Campbell says the incident upset staff because pennies were strewn about the counter and floor, and West's action served "no legitimate purpose."

Police later issued the 38-year-old West a citation for disorderly conduct. That carries a fine of as much as $140. Or 14,000 pennies.

I hope he pays that one too with pennies

And be sure to read the comments after the article

hahahahahahahahahaha

I hope he pays in pennies too!:yesnod:
I think it's pretty dumb that he's being fined for making a payment.
I would take that to court. and win my 2500 pennies back!

He's not being fined for making a payment. He's being fined for being a :censored:! LOL.

CoinStar FTW!

I thought coins were legal tender within the USA? Actually, all things considered, I would think that payment via metal is much more valuable than payment via this semi-worthless paper that money is printed up on. The way things are looking, one day coins will be EXTREMELY valuable to people wanting to beat them into arrow-head shapes to use for hunting. Paper dollar bills won't be worth a darn thing at all.

Maybe I should hang onto our change jug we have been saving.... :shrug01:

Yep. This was a funny video of guy trying to turn in his paper for some silver.

Im sure if he had left it in bags and not "strewn" them on the counter and floor they wouldve taken the dough...he got fined for doing that not for paying in pennies...besides...wasnt there a song about pennies from heaven??? if thats his only means to pay maybe he ought to go to the bank and ask for penny wrappers lol

I wonder what would've happened if he politely put the pennies on the counter and didn't create a mess. This might've gotten the message across while equivocating the charge.
