Posted At 14:49:11 02/11/2001 I keep a look out for breeders I will never deal with. I saved this from an earlier warning and the person reporting it is someone I respect. I'm sure Chris is still waiting for Sonny to return the so called DOA snakes. Sonny Wessels Ozark-Herps , http://members.tripod.com/`ozarkherps/index.html,Yellville,AR , ozark-herps-inc@webtv.net Sonny approached me the Sun. before Thanksgiving offering me an orangetail hypo and a yearling anery for one of F2 salmons and a neonate Chondro ! I agreed to the trade and sent him my animals via UPS (his request,because he lives "120 miles" from the nearest airport) The next day he calls me and tells me that both animals were DOA, I requested that he send them back! At that point he expressed that he would meet me half way "that's the kinda guy I am" he said, by sending me the anery boa and my dead animals.This was Tue 12/1/98. Well I have sent him numerous emails (with no responses) I have spoken to several other individuals who have had problems with Sonny, Myself and an anonomous friend have compared stories and caught this guy in several LIES ! I have been told that he also uses the alias "Snakes Alive" , but I cannot confirm that. He also claims to have been in the business for "20 years", it's odd none of the old school guys have heard of him! Everytime I spoke with him he was very cordial ,he is a smooth talker and likes to assure you that "I'm no Gary Strouse" If this guy approachs you , avoid him. Posted At 16:26:02 02/11/2001 Sonny is the most rediculas person to ever deal with. He is full of lies, and people who assosiate with him has done a great disservice to the reptile business. He is as low as they get. Whatever you do, DON'T send him Money. It is like donuts to a friend in Equador. The post office people will eat them, then make up an exuse like they never saw them. He has been kicked off of Kingsnake for scamming for two years, but I bet he is still learking on someone to prey on. Don't trade with him, send him money, or even talk to him. You will be sorry you did. I lost 1500 from him, and wrote it off. I wanted to take him to court to send him a lesson, but the word should do the same. Jeremy |

Posted At 12:09:15 02/13/2001 I don't know Sonny and don't want to. My comment concerns Richard's remark that he may use the alias "Snakes Alive". Whether or not this is true, you all should know that there is a perfectly proper reptile business called "Snakes Alive" in the same general neck of the woods, near Springfield, Mo. It is operated by Dennis and Maryann Harter, who are serious herpers and fine, upstanding people from whom I have bought snakes. If anyone is ever in doubt about whether they are dealing with the "real" Snakes Alive, they should go to the Harters' website listed on Kingsnake.com. Regards, Ian Long |
