Steven Bostwick of Iowa has been advertising a number of corn snakes on kingsnake.com including amber and mocha. The picture that he uses in his advertisement is of a snake owned by Southwest Wisconsin Reptiles. Steven will argue that his emoryi-cross corns are caramel and amber and anything with red eyes is a mocha. He has a very bad reputation in Iowa, so buyer beware. |

Posted At 14:00:20 11/02/2000 I sent an email to Steve inquiring about what he was advertising as 'Frosted Amber Corns'. His explanation was that his Ambers are based on Creamsicles whereas the other Ambers are based on Butter. I sent him an explanation of the genetics involved and requested that he NOT use the name 'Amber' in relation to any snake based on the emoryi blood lines. Ambers are true Elaphe g. guttata and are a double homozygous corn combining Caramel and Hypomelanism. Things are confusing enough as it is without misapplying an existing name. Perhaps he was just confused about the genetics of the Amber. |

Posted At 20:51:16 11/03/2000 I saw the photo in the Kingsnake.com classifieds as well. I agree that that snake is not an amber but just a hypomelanistic. |
