In regards to Pro Products: I have several issues to mention here. On numerous occasions I have spoken to Bob Pound and Pete Mimikos regarding their products, Sorry if I spelt your name wrong Pete, is that the way its spelled? Anyway I was interested in possibly purchasing their misting system and there biggest sales pitch was trashing the well-known Rainmaker System. They did this even at the Mid-Atlantic Show while Rainmaker was also vending at this event and I even walked over to the people from Rainmaker which was just down the isle from Pro Products and mentioned to the person "can't think of his name" of how Bob Pound and Pete Mimikos was putting down there system so badly to try and make a sale and the poor guy did nothing about it and replied to me they have heard about the trash Pro Products have been throwing on them. I also don't like the way they trash other vendors selling animals since they also sell reptiles at shows etc. I have purchased Povent -a-Mite and it does work but have lost a couple of Western Hognose Snakes after using this product as indicated due to neurological problems so word to people using this product don't use this on this species as it may lead to a healthy snakes death or neurological problems. Has anyone else had this problem with Western Hognose or any other species of reptiles? I would like to see how many of you people respond to this post and I would also like to see what both Bob Pound and Pete Mimikos have to say in reply to all this!!! FYI, I would never purchase anything Pro Products again. Nancy Strohl |

Posted At 09:11:48 03/26/2001 I don't know if Provent-a-mite can cause neurological problems problems in any specific breeds of snakes. I do know that if a person is sensitive to insecticides they should be very careful using it. I was at a friends house. He was treating his snakes for mites. I was helping him. We were working in a well ventilated area. I didn't come into direct contact with the spray or fumes. At least, I didn't think I did. Anyway I started to get very dizzy and started vommiting. I guess I wasn't careful while helping use the Provent-a-mite. I'm a person who's "extremely sensitive" to "all" insecticides. I ended up spending the day in the hospital. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't use Provent-a-mite, but you should be careful in all instances where it's being used. My friend no longer has problems with mites. He loves the product and will continue to use it. He won't ask me to help him next time though. LOL. I still have to find a method for killing mites, if I ever have them. I'm still looking for alternative methods such as predatory mites that will eat the snake mites. Hopefully my snakes will never have mites, but if they do I'll have do something. Hopes this helps. Posted At 11:45:30 03/26/2001 Thanks Rhonda, I appreciate the info. Also thanks to all who have sent emails. I'm gettin lots of good ideas and I feel if I ever get mites I'll be prepared. My worse fear has always been that my snakes would get mites while my husband was deployed. I don't think I'll have to worry about that anymore. Thanks Everyone :) Chrysta Johnson |

Posted At 12:06:36 03/26/2001 chemicals ah yes chemicals i use and have been using diatomateous earth for years as we all know mites and spiders breathe using book lungs or spiracles on the side of thier body D earth is basically diatoms that are dead leaving thier bodies left , which are VERY tiny what happens when the critter breathes this dust in it slices up their method of breathing [book lungs or whatever]effectivly killing them by suffocation i have never had a problem using this stuff no ill effects on any animals for over 20 years i usually put some under the newspaper of the cage of the infected animal and all mites usually die in about 3 days usually quicker.any eggs die soon after hatching This is by no means a scientific experiment just my experience i dont use chemicals[sorry Bob Pound] because i have many spiders and all animals are in the same room now if i were using chemicals i would have dead spiders thanx for your time john a |

Posted At 19:42:07 03/26/2001 This has nothing to do with "Pro Products", but it does have something to do with Pete Mimikos. Years ago he was manufacturing a thermostat unit under the name of "Custom Reptile Network". He came to Texas where I live and demonstrated his products to the various breeders and zoos. I was impressed, mainly for the reason that he stated that "if there is ever a problem or malfunction with the thermostat, it will shut itself off and not allow the heater to overheat". Well, in 1997 I found out otherwise. I lost a total of about 300 burmese python eggs, and other python eggs, due to his malfunctioning product, which cooked a whole years worth of production. I lost Albino labyrinth burms when they were still worth big bucks as well as male patternless leopard geckos, which were also worth money then. He was contacted and did nothing at all other than tell me sorry. He made no effort to make good on his claims of his product. Then Custom Reptile Network went out of business. Figures doesn't it. Anyway, I will never do business with Pete Mimikos, or any of his associates again. Besides, there are other products that work just as well and are cheaper for mite control. |

Posted At 21:24:26 03/27/2001 I use to use the provent a mite on my collection. I then lost a IJ Carpet Python due to a neurological problem. I have since stopped using it to make sure that I do not loose any more animals |

Re: Hey Pete Mimikos
Posted At 22:12:32 03/27/2001 This has nothing to do with "Pro Products or it's products" but it does have to do with Pete Mimikos. Let me start with I know Pete since the early 80's I thought we were on good terms till I've heard from a few people otherwise with one of those persons being Bob Pound himself. I asked Bob whats Pete's problem with me cause I never done or said anything bad about him and Bob was unable to answer my question. Pete and I never once done business so a bad business deal is ruled out and to this day I don't know what Pete's problem is with me??? I confronted Pete at the Orlando Reptile Expo some years ago to try and rid the problem but he told me their was no problem. Since then I have had a couple people including other venders ask me whats Pete's problem with me and I answered I don't know, why don't you ask him yourself and let me know. Hey Pete I don't have any problem with you but sure in hell would like to know what your problem is with me? Even though you been an asshole to me I still haven't turned around and said anything bad in return about you! I'm a fairly easy guy to reason with and whatever your problem is be man enough to talk to me about it. I'm not going to harp anymore about this but if you ever want to discuss it contact me. 2152.html Posted At 16:57:27 03/30/2001 Just a quick comment on the Rainmakers system. I purchased the RainMaker Sr. about a month ago. I was looking at the Pro Products version also. I found the Rainmaker to be a better system. So far I think for the money it is a great system. I have it misting all of my Boas and Colubrids and it does a great job. For each enclosure I have it so the humidity levels are kept just where I want them, with some variation on each day to keep it a bit more like nature. |

2164.html Posted At 21:47:45 03/30/2001 Just my .02 regarding Mr. Pound and his ways of doing business. Given the present and past info, this guy is not above threatening people whether he has a leg to stand on or not. So, I would just want to advise people to be careful stating his product killed your animal(s) due to neurological problems. Because without strong evidence of such, it is just giving him more ammunition so to speak. I am not disagreeing with you all in anyway, I just would hate to see more people harrassed by this man. And from what I hear/read, this is something he would do! What goes around comes around, and he will surely get his share of what he dishes out in due time. |

4548.html Posted At 23:47:14 06/14/2001 Wow, I sure am shocked by these comments! I have known Pete Mimikos for 12 years! He has always been true to his word, responded to any request for information, and been nothing but helpful. Twelve years is a long time, and I've never had any thing but good interactions with Pete. |
