As I have stated in other posts, I am not a breeder/dealer. I do this (boas) as a hobby to get the boa morphs I want with out shelling out $10,000 that I don't have. If things work out I may decide to go all out as a breeder/dealer. I have wrote to some people asking about info on importing. I either get told it's too much of a hassle to do (but they do it) or I get no response at all. Now I'm not stupid I know if they give me info I may have some more compitition to deal with and no one wants that. I have done several searches with no luck. I was looking on info on Surinam, Trinidad, Brazil, Guyana, and Peru. I figured I could contact the trade dept. or something, but I can't find it. I know there are farms in those countries breeding these boas and selling them for a lot less than what is asked for them here. I know there are extras like Vet bills, medicine, acclamating them to being handled and things I'm sure I've yet to consider. I have tried other forums, by direct E-mailing people, not posting there. I have seen posts requesting info on here and I have seen some of those post get some flack that this board is for good guy, bad guy and I guess info on sales post. I'm not trying to break any rules. This is called the board of inquiry. This is an inquiry. I am seeking info on sales in a way or someone to point me in the right direction. I'm going to build a 2 story garage soon and house my current boas there with all new gadgets for heating, misting, lighting, and whatever else that's needed to induce happy breeding boas. All you breeder/dealers got your start somewhere. I'm only asking for a web site, a book something to inform me on the subject and a break. I only want to deal in red tails, nothing else. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Rich if this isn't formated correctly, perhaps you can make a suggestion on how to change it or point me to a forum that will provide the info I need. I tried some people at kingsnake (I didn't post, didn't think anyone would respond), no help. Maybe I asked the wrong people. Thanks for your time. Ernie

Please, no more brokers. If you're intentions are only to add diversity to your collection or to acquire "morphs" at a discounted price, it's no good anyway. You have to buy alot more than most individuals are set up to care for and as far as the morphs go, the people exporting them are just as hip to the market now as you are. You would probably get a better price from a competetive breeder. There are actually only a handful of people importing that should be, in my opinion. The ones that have been around since they were needed. Over the years, it seams like every herp enthusiast that suffers from the inability to produce captive bred animals and lethargy wants to "get in on the action".

my last 3 suriname shipments cost me 52 thousand dollarinos--that is in the last 2 months--there is no exporter in any of the countries that you listed is going to send you our 5 special boas--you have to buy dart frogs-another 20 or so differnt types of frogs-turtles-caiman-tree boas-toads-plicas-brown tree climbers-you name it--if they catch it-you have to buy it--they will not pick you out 5 gorgeous redtail boas and ship them to you, or let alone 100 redtails even if you offered them $100 each for them--there are only a small portion that they catch and have cites paper work for--5 boas would end up costing you $400 a piece for the same quality you could buy from a full time importer for $150-$200--do the math--you can't import just redtails---it is a HUGE headache unless you know the people you are dealing with and have customers for all the other animals that come in with a shipment. take my advice--ask another importer for some nice pics of some pretty redtails and pay what they are asking--you will do much better in the long run-Ben

Thanks. I didn't know it was so expensive or that I had to buy a bunch of other reptiles that I have no need for. It was just a thought. I am not trying to bust into the business. My true passion is Harley's, always as been, always will be. As I have stated before I only have what I have to get the morphs without giving up an arm or lung, you know. I have a small collection, only 11. I have 1 of those sold a friend has a Hypo DH for Ghost I'm buying from him, female. It sounds like a pain to import. The only reason it had crossed my mind is because there are a couple businesses here that deal in reptiles and I go in to see what they have to restock heat emitters or whatever and they brought up that they would be interested in buying (at whole sale) 2-5 boas of different species at a time. There are like 7-8 places around here that I know of that deals in reptiles. Ben if your interested I can drop your name or anyone else's for that matter just drop me a E-mail and I'll pass all your info, addy, name, number and species along. Some of the local breeders here aren't very honest. They sell reptiles with infections, mites, mouth rot, one even sold a monitor with a sock in his belly. I am not in this hobby for the money. Some of you all may not believe that and you're entitled to your opinion. I love boas and I think some of the morphs are really beautiful, but in all honesty, if I had $10,000 to spend I'd be building a Harley. My boas are my babies. They're not stock or a future bank roll. I was just considering a business as I am disable and in the middle of a court battle for a settlement. I may get something, I may not. No matter what happens I'll have to go back to school to learn a new trade or start a business. I want to do Harleys. Snakes are my second choice, I don't really have a third choice yet. I have some thoughts, but we'll have to see. I don't want to import anything, but redtails. I don't care about frogs, monitors are cool, maybe Cameleans. Thanks again for the info I really do appreciate it. This site is a very informative tool. I am glad I was introduced to it. Thanks Again. Ernie
