Man, I'll tell you what, besides being a place where buyers can inquire about sellers, the unseen value of this forum is for the sellers to learn who NOT to sell animals too. I'm not singling anyone out, but I've seen a ton of reputation damaging remarks made by folks that IMO where totally uncalled for. This is the reptile industry; shipping problems happen, animals get sick, etc. Again, I'm not refering to every complaint on this forum, many (most) of them are indeed valid. I just wish SOME folks would think things through a bit before choosing to damage someones reputation. Many of you (you know who you are) view this forum as more of a social event, failing to comprehend the seriousness of it all. I urge all of the "good" sellers to beware of these "high risk" buyers, because sometimes not making a sale could be the best thing for your business... |

4047.html Posted At 12:11:31 06/03/2001 TOM, thats why we have attorneys. If you feel you have been slighted then their are avenues that you can take. I basically concur with your sentiments, but the problem is not so much as improper dealings as it is with not having a " policy " which to me is Guidance, and Guidelines for conducting oneself in this business. Many of these posts are a remarkable product of emotion not reason, and they dont know what to do. They feel they have been taken, their animal died, they lost their money, they have been cheated, they did not ship me, on and on. No one bent their arm when they entered these transactions, and for all we know both the seller as well as the buyer may have been looking to dump their livestock. For some ungodly reason, their attraction to each other basically remind me of getting a bag of peanuts when their supposed to be diamonds. But no one bothered to open the bag! JERRY |

4054.html Posted At 16:46:03 06/03/2001 Tom, I agree quite strongly with your statements. In addition to your comments, here's one thing about this board that rubs me the wrong way...I think when people post an inquiry, what they're looking for is some feedback from people who've actually dealt with that person. Not just a bunch of people giving their opinions and likes/dislikes about the party in question. For instance, I noticed one guy in particular who posts negatively about a lot of people, but his posts don't refer to any of his own first hand dealings. So I did a key word search of his name and found that this particular guy has posted replies 140+ times in the last year, but his own collection is made up of about 10-12 snakes...could this 20-something year old guy possibly have had business interations with all those people? I doubt it. Therefore I think the majority of those posts have little if any credibility. Other than that, I can't think of any other complaints. This board is definitely a very useful tool. As a matter of fact, someone I've read about on this board who's been known to rip off many people contacted me recently about some snakes. Because I was so familiar with past dealings, I knew better than to deal with him. |

4070.html Posted At 01:04:49 06/04/2001 Mike, I disagree, I think that while the most important factor is actual business dealings-shipping, quality of animals, animals properly represented etc. I do give some weight to posts that go to "character", due scrutiny of said posts of course. I don't take them all for face value, but if I know the information to be credible or there is a lot of postings that seem to bear out said testimony, I pay attention to it, whether the person has bought animals or not. I feel that the character and "goings on" of an individual speak volumes, and I take my business elsewhere. For example, I know of a dealer who gets pretty high marks from a lot of people, but would never buy from him, because I know for a fact that he lied about a major incident and lost all credibility, in my eyes. Another person gets a lot of praise, from people who have had actual business deals with him, too many in fact, (need I mention a name) yet, I would never purchase from this person either, because I don't like the way he has conducted his business lately, and also suspicious circumstances involving him last year. Another seller seems to get a number of glowing reports, but has apparently filed a number of lawsuits against different people, now the guy may have had some really bad luck and wierd circumstances that could have warranted a few lawsuits, but at least in appearance some of them seemed like they could have been deemed frivolous by some people. Anyway thats my own opinion, even though it doesn't pertain to an actual business transaction John |

4106.html Posted At 11:30:17 06/05/2001 I agree with Tom, I have Leachianus babies I would love to post for sale, but am Gunshy because the last thing I need is someone without experience to keep them posting ( very Bad Guy ) after they killed my Geckos, which are perfectly healthy. Maybe we need a list for qualified buyers ?? Mike |

4109.html Posted At 13:49:24 06/05/2001 Private individuals are certainly fair game to be included as being 'BAD GUYS' if they warrant the title. But I think care should be taken to keep this from becoming just a spitting duel between two parties. Certainly, if someone has a history of placing orders and not following through, or otherwise proving to be the 'customer from Hell', I would certainly want to know about this person myself. One of the biggest gripes I have is with people that will place multiple orders with breeders or dealers in order to tie down ALL of the animals they are interested in until they can determine what they actually want. Invariably, this sort of person will then place the order with the one they decide on and not even bother to contact the rest about the change of heart. Actually, I do not even pay attention to those people that say they want something until funds change hands. The animals are for sale to the first person to get the money to me. And no one gets placed on the waiting list awaiting animals to hatch unless they have sent me a deposit. Hate to be this way, but circumstances have proven to me that this is the only way to do business. Many people have no conception of their word being their bond. |
