I recently sent out some Geckos to an individual a week ago yesterday. Just now he E-mailed me and said that they arrived dead. I was concerned, and called Airbourne and asked when they were picked up, they were picked up on Tuesday. I packaged them thinking that they would be picked up the next day, and this guy waited like 4 day's to get them after they arrived. Now here is my problem. He wants a refund for him being stupid. Should I give it to him? Even though it was his fault? I did Email him on Monday and asked him what he thought of them, but he never responded till now. What should I do. Please help.

Your obligation ceases once its in the hands of the carrier unless arraingements were made that if for any reason their is a delay on the part of the carrier you will make good any DOAs. It is his obligation to pick up the animals in a timely fashion. 4 days basically indicates that this louse whom ever he is should be kept in a box himself for 4 day and see how he would enjoy a slow death. Its an abomination. Its bad for everyone when some uncareing person does something like this. He is entitled to nothing ! One final question, how did he pay you?

FIRST OFF WHY DIDNT AIRBOURNE DELIVER TO THE GUYS DOOR? SECOND, I PROVIDE LIVE ARRIVAL AS LONG AS THEIR PICKED UP WITHIN 4 HRS OF ARRIVAL(FOR AIRPORT SHIPMENTS) OR SAME DAY OF DELIVERY FOR DOOR TO DOOR BUT THEY MUST SEND BACK DEAD ANIMALS TO RECIEVE REPLACEMENTS.. THATS JUST HOW I DO IT, NEVER HAD TO REPLACE ANYTHING DUE TO DOA.. GOOD LUCK, I WOULDNT REFUND ANYTHING..

see Aribourne tried to deliver, but he wasn't home and according to them never got ahold of ahold of him. There was 3 different times that they went to drop them off, and he wasn't there any of the times. They also left messages on his machine but he still didn't respond at all. I told him the day before I shipped when they would be there, gave him the tracking # and he still didn't do anything. Everytime I ask him about it he tells me that he picked them up the same day that they arrived. It just seems a little fishy to me.

Well, if you have the tracking info from Airborne with the failed attempts, just notify him that you've caught him in his lie about picking them up on time and don't deal with him again.

i wouldnt refund him anything! if he can not take the time to make sure live animals are picked up and taken care of properly he should be keeping animals in the first place. i agree with the above statements "just notify him that you've caught him in his lie about picking them up on time", "Its an abomination. Its bad for everyone when some uncareing person does something like this." he doesnt deserve anything in return!!!

The guy sounds like a morron. Guys like that ruin it for everyone. Even if he's not trying to scam you, he's still an idiot for leaving them there that long.

Sorry if this offends some people but over the years I have found most customers are idiots. I'm not a breeder but I have purchased snakes and feeders in the last two months. I have an obligation on my part to the seller and to the animals that they are picked up or received in a timely fashion. I never know the hours I'm going to work so I have them shipped to a cousins' place of business. If they are shipped via Delta I make sure that I will be available to pick up the animals. Result, all shipments are received or picked up on time, all animals are live, all rodents are frozen, no finger pointing. Now I know there are some unscrupulous dealers out there, but so far all the ones I have dealt with did their part and I did mine to make the transactions go as smoothly as possible.

The problem is the seller or the shipper both suffer. Eventually the shipper no longer wants or needs this kind of a problem. Thats why its becoming more difficult for carriers to accept living material. So everyone suffers. The answer is to put some legal teeth into this kind of inhumane result. Its unfortunate that the consignee could not be fined for allowing these animals to suffer. That would straighten out the problem. Aside from loosing the animals he would be fined. The only way a moron learns is when it costs him.

Hi,
I breed beardies. Whenever planning a shipping, I go over the shipping proceedure step by step. I let them know when I'll be shipping, when they'll arrive, I ask them if they can be there for the guaranteed shipping time and if they can't I arrange a shipping day according to when they will be there.
I tell customers they are guaranteed to arrive safely and healthy, but if they should arrive past the guaranteed time they need to contact me right away so i can help track it, as well as I tell them if it should arrive unhealthy or expired, they need to contact me immediately, not the next day or later!
It's always best to go over your guarantee before the animal is in the mail so there can be no misunderstandings.
What I'd do in your situation where this *gentleman* is denying the late pick-up is, call the shipper and ask them to send you a copy of the shipping records letting them know what your most interested in! (Actual Pick up date)After you've recieved a copy you can send him a copy with a written letter stating he did not act responsibly in the care of these animals and you are not liable for them.
Even if he did in fact pick them up the same day, he should have contacted you immediately (Same Day!) And it is his responsibility to ship them back immediately as well! I expect next day. This way it shows he opened them in a timely fashion.
There are times I do extend guarantees. That's when i've shipped an animal and they've gotten back to me immediately with a health concern and they follow my advice to the letter, and I feel they've been honest, and they still lose it then i'll replace it.
But the most important thing is for the buyer to maintain contact and show he's gone by the proper care guidelines for it's species. Don't let him harrass you for his stupidity!
I am always deeply saddened when I've gone thru the trouble of breeding, tending an egg thru a long incubation, then caring for the baby for the first 6wks of life, then watch someones carelessness kill it within a very short time!

So sorry for your loss!
Gina
