Posted At 11:44:54 01/16/2001 I know someone who ordered 2 geckos from him and they did NOT mark the box properly and the babies died because they froze to death, the postal workers may not have known what it was because the words LIVE REPTILES were written in BALL POINT PEN!!! May I add that there was no styrofoam in the box, just crickled newspaper, and if this box was marked and packed properly the animals may have survived this horrific ordeal... This doesn't reflect his animals which I am sure are of good quality, I am just telling you to beware of shipping. Trace |

Posted At 23:51:22 01/16/2001 To Trace, I believe any herps being shipped in frigid weather should ideally be shipped Delta Dash! Of course the price of two geckos probably does not make the cost Delta Dash practical. I probably would have recommended your friend to wait until warmer weather or until he added more to the order to make Dash justifiable. Postal service is a gamble in ANY weather. Did your friend choose postal to cut corners or did Ben recommend it? I just recieved an order from Ben last Friday of over ten Amazon boas and they came in fine via Dash. No problems at all. Nice and toasty with heat packs! JHedger |

Posted At 22:41:09 01/17/2001 hey everyone, ive done business with Ben on numerous occasions and corrasponded almost weekly with Ben Seigel reptiles and i honestly cant name a better business. this mans sent me animals that were far above what i expected and at the best prices you cant find. also for the post above about shipping, im unaware of that instance but i do know everything ive recieved has been flawlessly packed with foam, labels and in a safe manner using heatpacks when needed. IF Ben did have a problem, hes corrected it and you wont find a better dealer. regards, Bill Horn Briarpatch Herps 513.868.3708 |

Posted At 09:53:02 01/18/2001 Three things happened that shouldn't have happened in this incident: 1. There was no proper labeling that was readable on the box, whoever did the shipping of those animals didn't even use a marker, they put was "Live Reptiles" in Ball point pen on the side and nothing about "keep at 70 degrees", or "this side up" or any of those precautions that should have been done. Nor was styrofoam used which of course a definite material that should be used in winter, period. 2. The package was shipped to the wrong address, it was supposed to go to the person's place of business and someone at Ben Siegel's facility goofed and placed the home address and was left on the doorstep and froze to death...... :( 3. The package should have been "held at the post office", not delivered directly, that is a major misconception that I think many people should learn, is leave it in the warm office instead of having them deliver it to your door. This person from that point forward only will pick it up at the Post Office. I have heard many nice things about Ben Siegel's animals, and I never meant any derogitory harm to him for his quality of animals. Please make that perfectly clear and I apologize for any misconception on that part. Personally, I would rather wait until spring or drive to get any animals, I have heard many, many horror stories this year of freezing deaths, damage of packages and other things. It has happened to the finest of breeders, but this was also a partial responsiblity of the employees of that facility. I am sure they recified the situation in true satisfaction to the person involved as well. I hope this clarifies things and also makes people aware of the risks involved of shipping through the USPS as well. |

Posted At 19:01:49 01/20/2001 Trace, just so everyone knows all of this incident please share how the dealer (ben) acted about your claim as well as how he handled it. in the past ive had problems with animals (nothing from Ben tho) and when the dealer was confronted i was refunded or issued replacment instantly. this of course doesnt ease the pain of a lost animal but in my mind it does release the dealer of any hard feelings i may have. i also got to thinking maybe the weather conditions of your area werent discussed? |

Posted At 18:52:25 01/21/2001 The little business I've done with Ben has been great. They're prices are often great and the animals are quality! Check out his new retail store in Deerfield Beach, Florida! I haven't been there yet but I hear it's great. |
