Once a pair of ball pythons lock in mating can they 'unlock' at will or are they like dogs and they remain stuck together until the male is done?

males lock and unlock when they want..when i have noticed breeding some males lock for several hours and break off and other time you have that smokin breeder that is on a female for a day or two at a time.

The female calls all of the shots, males have little say in whether they remain locked.

Really? That's kinda full of awesome. I figured since it was called a 'lock' that it was just that. Like when dogs or wolves mate they physically become locked together.

Girl power! Heehee.

And with dogs, the female is the one that controls the mating. They have to loosen up so the male can get away, It's that the females are all tense and that holds the male there. :)

Snakes are different. :)
