Well the het pieds are off to a slow start this year. Been putting the hets together for 2 weeks now with little more than courting going on. Had a couple of early copulations but nothing long term.

The Albinos on the other hand.....

They have wasted little time getting acquainted. I first paired these two up on Tuesday and had a brief lock up that same night. Wednesday however must have had love in the air.... these two have now been like they are in the above pics for about 16 hours.

Early season copulations dont really mean much, but they sure make for a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

What kind of substrate is that you have your snakes on? What are your temps? Do you have them in complete darkness most of the time? How often do you place them together once they have broken their lock? I've heard three days on, three days off. Any help would be appreciated. I have that awesome link with pictures of everything you need to know about breeding, but it's vague about times, temps and more details for "dummies" like me.

The substrate is Sani-Chips. It is just chipped Aspen.

As far as breeding goes, everyone has their own "formula". While often very similar, and sometime very different, there really is no right or wrong way as long as you have done nothing to jeopardize the health of the animals and end up with fertile eggs in the end.

So with that being said here is the readers digest version of what has worked for me.

From mid March through mid October my temps are 90-92 on the warm end and 80-82 on the cool end with 14 hours a day of daylight.

In mid October I start lowering the night time temps and shortening the daylight hours.
Day temps: 90-92 warm side and 80-82 cool side. Night temps: 86-87 warm side, 80-82 cool side. 13 Hours of daylight.

November 1st: Day Temps: 90-92 warm side and 80-82 cool side. Night temps: 85-86 warm side, 78-80 cool side. 12 hours daylight. I will begin pairing now as well.

If I am pairing just one male to one female I will go anywhere from 2-4 days together. It really just depends on how the snakes are doing. Then separate them for 2-4 days and pair them back up. You just want to play around with the pairing/separating periods to see what gets them stimulated.

If I have multiple females that I am breeding to a single male I typically have the male in with each female for 2 days then rotate him to the next female for 2 days. Regardless, all of my snakes get two days off each week for rest and offering food.

December: Day Temps: 90-92 warm side and 80-82 cool side. Night temps: 84-85 warm side, 76-78 cool side. 11 hours daylight. Again I just keep rotating my males through my females just like before and giving two days off a week for rest and feeding. The last week of the month I give all my snakes a week off for rest and feeding.

January: Day Temps: 90-92 warm side and 80-82 cool side. Night temps: 83-84 warm side, 75-76 cool side. 10 hours daylight. Again I just keep rotating my males through my females just like before and giving two days off a week for rest and feeding.

February: Day Temps: 90-92 warm side and 80-82 cool side. Night temps: 83-84 warm side, 75-76 cool side. 10 hours daylight. Again I just keep rotating my males through my females just like before and giving two days off a week for rest and feeding. In mid February I fire up the incubator and I also give the snakes another whole week off for rest to gain some strength for the stretch run.

March through March 15: Day Temps: 90-92 warm side and 80-82 cool side. Night temps: 83-84 warm side, 75-76 cool side. 10 hours daylight. Typically by the 15th of March I am done with pairing my snakes. Either they have done their thing or they haven't. Also on March 15th I typically just bang the temps and daylight back to their normal Summer temps/daylight hours.

That is it in a nut shell. If you have any other specific questions just ask.
