is it cheaper to have an account with paypal when you sell an animal, or is it cheaper with a credit card? i can set up my site either way, but i want to know. i like the way paypal works, but i hear their rates can be high.

Colleen,
As you are just starting out, you will most likely have to build your business and, until you do, a merchant account is probably not justified. Your customers can use their credit cards through Paypal.
Once you get to a point in your sales, that you will have to quantify, a merchant account may become logical. However, I would suggest that you always offer Paypal as a payment option.

Paypal charges 2.9% plus a $0.30 transaction fee with a business account.
The fees can be up to 4.9% with a personal account.
