Can someone explain to me the genetics that require a super pastel. I am a little confused about the whole thing. Would a normal pastel not just give you a smaller chance of getting a silver streak?

I'm not sure exactly what your question is, but (yellow) pastel to (yellow) pastel make the super pastel...

Is that what you were asking?

Normal (yellow) pastel to black pastel will not create the silver streak.

You could do it the long way and aquire a male or female normal yellow pastel. Mate to a normal royal and get 50/50 (if the odds are on your side) pastels/normals. Mate back original yellow pastel to a son/daughter and get supers/pastels/normals in the F2. THEN grow up your super and mate it to a black pastel. But by then silver streaks will be down to less than 1000 dollars LOL

Yeah Normal (jungle) Pastel to Black "only" produces Black Pewters... another amazing looking snake.

Here's my "little" '06 Black male back when we first got him in:

Definately a cool addition to anyone's co-dom projects...

Im sorry I did not express my question very well. I was wondering why in order to make a silverstreak it would require a super pastel and a black pastel. From a genetic standpoint why are you not able to produce a silverstreak with a pastel and a black pastel. Im do not understand all of genetics, but I thought that a pastel would give the same genes as a super pastel 50% of the time. Thanks.

It's about these genes taken up a notch:
lets say N = normal P = Pastel & B = Black Pastel-

A normal Pastel is a visual het for Super Pastel gene pair = NP
A Super Pastel is the homozygous form of Pastel, it has a matched pair of Pastel genes = PP

Note that a Super Pastel is brighter than a normal Pastel, this plays a part in the colouration of the Silver Streak

A Black Pastel is also a het for it's own Super... =NB

if you add a jungle pastel (NP) to the Black (NB)
you get the Black Pewter, which is very lovely. It's much like the Sliver Streak only darker...

A Black Pastel BP x with a Super Pastel PP uses that double PP pairing to make the brighter colour of the Silver Streak.

Hope this helps- Deb
