    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

This is my third breeding season, and the first I've been able to produce a fire x bright pastel clutch.


1. Cut eggs day 58ish and the babies looked no where near 'ready' which of course about made me cry (well, it really did make me cry cause i'm a wuss)

2. Baby 1 is out but still connected---I moved all of them over to moist paper towels in the incubator since the hatchrite seemed so harsh on their skin (did I mention I'm a wuss)

3. Baby 2 also is 'out' and still REALLY connected.

Aside from the fact I am terrified they won't make it. K.....I'm really emotional about my babies. I'd like some advice.

I plan to just leave them as is on the moist papertowels in the incubator...does that make sense?

Any other suggestions, hints, helpful stuff?

And am I looking at a firefly there--I have no clue what they look like as hatchlings.... (I'm very sure the first baby is a normal but.....I'm so wierded out with this clutch I could call a ping pong ball an egg right now) :( :ack2: :eek:

(Incubation temps were 89-90 with a rare low to 88.5ish.)
 
What temperature did you incubate the eggs? The light colored one looks like a very nice looking Firefly to me. What you're doing is right so now the best thing you can do is leave them alone.

The range was 89ish to 90ish. I had one spike to around 91 when I was at work, but quickly corrected that. And ty that is reassuring. I am sure it dropped to 88 as well at times but don't have it in my records.

I recently read that lower isn't necessarily bad so I'm thinking maybe I should drop down a degree for better yolk absorption?
 
Congrats Susan! really nice clutch. Did you get 2 fireflies? they look awesome! I cut my recent clutch at day 56 after the first one pipped. Their eggs still had a decent amount of yolk but they pretty much absorbed the whole thing in 24 hrs. I also left them in the incubator until they absorbed the yolk entirely.

While I'm not calling it officially until they are all out it looks like 4 fireflies, 1 normal and I am not sure if the other is a fire or not, I'll post them all on here when they are out for help with identification since this is my first clutch of firexpastel. Thank you!

Alot of people cut at day 50 and you cut at day 58, I think they should be just fine. I would make sure the eggs don't dry out by adding water to the ones that look like they need it. Other than that the egg sack sizes vary depending on the baby. Some of them still have large sacks connected when they exit the eggs but they usually detach within a day or so. I think you have done everything right, just be patient and keep an eye on them:thumbsup:

I'm absolutely glad I resisted the urge to cut on day 54 which is when I generally cut but wanted to wait....now i'm really glad I did.

If adding water would you mean 'in' the egg? Actually all of them look juicy so that may not be an issue and I moistened the papertowels and will check (am checking) several times a day....(i'm having to fight not to just sit there and watch!)

I would personally move the eggs to a different incubation tub lined with moist paper towels - just so that when they do start crawling around they will be on a softer surface :D But other than that, I think you (and they!) will be fine. Gorgeous little ones!
