Seriously? Don't worry, I looked it up for you...parasite-an organism which lives, grows, feeds, and takes shelter in or on another organism. MAGGOTS DO THAT!!! Whatever the heck crawled out of the animal is WHAT OBVIOUSLY KILLED IT!

Due to the fact the OP decided it wasn't necessary to take the appropriate route of seeking advice from a professional regarding what those were, we can't assume they weren't maggots based on fuzzy cell phone footage. I want to believe they are parasitic but until the other gecko housed with her comes down with something or is tested/diagnosed, we just have to guess. This, ultimately, means it's hard to "prove" they came from the seller, unfortunately. Her discovery didn't really prove anything other than the fact the female gecko died, but of what?

We still don't even have an update on the male so, in reality, we could go round and round forever. There isn't enough information provided, IMO. All we have is speculation on what it was; no concrete proof.

You can't assume they were maggots either. If you watched the videos and can honestly ask "but of what", with regard to what killed the gecko, here's a clue...there were multiple organisms crawling out of it's throat and ears and they DON'T BELONG THERE!!! Do I think Erik planted them there? Absolutely not! But the problem obviously existed BEFORE the OP acquired them and it is the responsibility of the seller to ensure his animals are healthy. I also doubt that if the seller found more problems with his existing collection, he certainly wouldn't admit it here. By the way, WHAT ZOOS!

I haven't posted before-just chosen to read, I have to say that looks bad, maggots or otherwise, I would STILL consider them to be parasites no matter what they look like and either way they shouldn't have been in the animal at all. From my understanding even wild caught animals should be treated for parasites before they are ever offered up for sale.

I don't assume they are or aren't maggots. I don't assume to know what they are because the OP has given us no information other than what they looked like and that they were there. This is one of the main problems with people coming to the BOI. If you don't have 100% of the information, you will be scrutinized. I normally just read posts and have observed it many times. We only have to go by what we have been given and it was very poor judgement of the OP to just toss out a carcass without investigating this properly. She's completely ditched the thread now so any questions we're asking to get down to the root of the problem are going unanswered.

I agree that animals should be screened and treated before being sold and the seller has come on here stating he has done so before, and after. I, personally, would love to see reports of fecals brought in to lab that prove his stock is clear. That said, not all parasitic infestations can be seen in a fecal. Either the ova isn't being shed, thus presenting a false clear, or they do not reproduce via excrement. This is why knowing what these things are so important.

We don't know what they are or how they got there. It's a very glaring flaw in this puzzle and until we know what it is we wont know where they were picked up. From the OP's feeders? From the OP's unclean cages? From the seller? From the wild? We don't know and until then we need more info from the OP. Like how IS that male doing? Has he been screened yet? Has he seen a vet?

Maggots or parasites? We will never know now. On a side note, how do we know the animal was freshly deceased? We don't. Also how many of us out there have mixed WC with CB? Last I checked a large number of us have , especially when we possess a large breeding stock to help introduce new bloodlines. And since it is supposed to be an info thread, let's say use caution when dealing with anyone (as we should always do, things can go wrong with any transaction at any time). And if you suspect your animal has a health issue...... TAKE IT TO A QUALIFIED VETERINARIAN BEFORE IT ENDS UP LIKE THIS!

Some good points! But One could make the same argument to the seller. Who is the "importer friend(s)" and what is his/their procedures regarding medications and are they qualified to give meds if they even do so. Now the OP has to be "investigating this properly", which should have been avoided if the seller had investigated his sources properly. The OP is certainly being scrutinized for not having 100% of the information, but that video paints a clear enough picture for me. The clearly advanced infestation existed before she recieved those geckos.

Freshly deceased, lol! A new twist on something you just want "dropped". Hit and run? I would LOVE for you to name the "large number" of you who mix WC with CB, lol. I think everyone will "use caution" when dealing with you...and them.

You are right about one thing. This is an unfortunate incident and perhaps both parties will take something away from this that will benefit them in the future.

LMAO! How do I even respond to such a post? I would love to know if the male has worms. If it doesn't, she's stuck with an oddball with nothing to breed it to. And that's a whole lotta' caution I's be usin' now. How will I ever sleep at night. As per the context of this thread, I assumed that you were insinuating that WC and CB were recklessly being mixed, seeing as how I assumed you read the whole thread with your good eye.
