In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

My Blood Boa is broken

I'm always so bummed to see the good guys have to struggle with stuff like this. :( I've been waiting and hoping for a post along the lines of 'ta-da, he's back to normal!'

I hope you guys find something you can fix. This has got to be a lesson in frustration.

Shadera summed up my feelings exactly there. :(
I'm so sorry you have to go through all this. I'm really hoping it is just some easily treated bug or a minor pinched nerve that will clear up on it's own. I have my fingers crossed for you two. Hang in there!

Just got back from the vet, and except for the obvious scoliosis of the spine, no signs of damage to the spine show up.

I was hoping for good news as well. So I take it the cause is unknown? That can be so frustrating.

wiki says in regards to humans: "Scoliosis is typically classified as either congenital (caused by vertebral anomalies present at birth), idiopathic (cause unknown, subclassified as infantile, juvenile, adolescent, or adult, according to when onset occurred), or neuromuscular (having developed as a secondary symptom of another condition, such as spina bifida, cerebral palsy, spinal muscular atrophy, or physical trauma)."

I am so sorry Rick, I know how excited you were for this project.
:(

I'm so sorry Rick :( don't give up, you can't let the bad guys win.

I hope he heals up quick for you. I'm glad that his spine isn't damaged.

I'll toss my dollar in the "hoping for a quick fix" hat as well. Maybe it's just a bad/deep bruise caused by the female, and which only just came to the surface...

Thanks everyone. Should have clarified, simple bacteria tests will be done first, then we'll move on to the others. Could very well be the exertion of courtship cause Salmonella in his body to go unchecked for a while. Salmonella is one of those virus's that can cause spine issues.

I too am hoping we get an answer this week. I would like nothing better then to get him fixed.

And Helen, it's obviously not comfortable for him, but he doesn't react like it hurts, just that he knows something is wrong with it.

Hey Rick, just wondering if you got any answers from them test results? hoping the best for you & the blood

Went in like scheduled on Sunday, but the pediatric kit hasn't come in yet to draw the blood for testing. I'll get called in when it arrives. Guku has exhibited no change at all.

Treating my Sunglow Rosy's nose rub, which worsened to an abscess is the more critical problem at the moment. She rubbed a knot on her nose some time back, it subsided, went away, then returned with a vengeance when she went to rubbing again a couple weeks ago. This time it's not a knot though, so I need to fix it if I can. The sinus' is a delicate area though, so we'll see. Last time I dealt with this, it took a few months to correct.

Sorry I haven't been around lately. Just dealing with more crap then I care to admit lately.

Just got the call that the pediatric kit is in, so I'm off to see the vet again. Don't really care for the idea that he's only had a couple days to digest, but it wasn't a large meal, so hopefully he'll keep it down.

Results are in for Rosy as well. 2 colonies of Acinetobacter sp were cultured, and they are sensitive to several kinds of anti-biotic treatments. So hopefully we'll get a handle on that before too long.

Ciao

How long a course of antibiotics do you normally give or is this a one off injection?

Best of luck with the tests on the blood, fingers crossed over here that they find something just so you can take some kind of action.

I'll be giving Rosy a Fortaz injection every 72 hours x6 doses, assisted hydration during, and we'll go from there.

As for Guku's blood, well, he's a little guy, so you can only take so much. But we got enough for the blood cultures and CBC. Didn't want to mess with him beyond that because of the full belly and he also decided to go into shed yesterday, and I don't mess with them during ecdysis.

Glad to hear the culture was successful, and gave you some answers!

Yep, it's always nice to get a positive answer instead of a maybe/could be. :yesnod: Lets just hope we get the same quick and easy results with Guku.

I think I'm going to go ahead and call a few larger breeders, just to see if by chance one of them has experienced anything like it. I've talked with my vet, the Zoo vet, and 2 other vets as well. So far all I got was, Hmmmm, and, interesting. Everyone seems to be scratching their head over it. I think I'll email Dr. Mader as well.

Thanks for listening!

I know it's no consolation re Guku, but I'm very glad you have posted this - I for one, and probably many others, learn a lot from reading threads of experiences like this.

Initial Blood tests are back. CBC (blood chemistry) all numbers are in the normal range, and eerily right in the middle of that normal range, no highs or lows. So all internal organs are working properly and good hydration.

Blood cultures have managed to successfully culture, absolutely nothing. Not a single colony of anything that shouldn't be there. So, we'll get more blood when we can get him down there again, and have it sent to ZooPath. Unsure as of yet what specifically we'll be testing for, but I'm sure my vet will fill me in when I go down there.

On a positive note though, Rosy is a champ, and her swollen nose is quickly returning to normal, and she dropped me a perfect shed last night.
