In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....
I have yet to hear the question directly addressed concerning whether or not, in the near future, there will be an official notice/letter that would direct any UPS employee to a superior/manager aware of the current exemption to their policies?

I.e. any UPS hub/driver/employee just calls up corporate, or whom ever, and confirms its ok to ship, then send the package on its way?

Nope, I am not allowed to.

The last thing we need is Obnoxious Willie waving it in the face of Counter Clerk Jimmy 17 and calling him an idiot, while demanding service. I can understand not wanting that.

And I can TOTALLY see that happening, unfortunately.

So am I to understand that we are just supposed to take it on faith, disregarding everything in writing on UPS's website, that we are allowed to ship snakes with SYR (as long as we don't tell people we're shipping snakes)?

You can't post anything that refutes UPS policy on shipping snakes?

Robyn, can you step over to my side and see how that looks?

I'm certainly pulling for SYR and want the company to thrive, but Robyn, when you said people would be waving around paper, calling people, names etc, it just seems to parallel the mindset regarding gun control.

If a few people abuse the right to own(in this case, act inappropriate because they have a powerful paper) then nobody else should have access to guns(the contract)

(Please don't let the mention of gun control, derail the topic! I just thought it might be a fair comparison?)

Does UPS have an 'understanding' that is counter to their published rules and requirements?

I dunno, but why would a biz make an exception but have a prohibition on publishing the exception so people doing biz with them could know what the rules really are?

I just wrote UPS with a link to this thread, and flat out asked them if they could ship snakes or not.

You hit the nail on the head with that. Why on earth would UPS say that SYR can ship snakes, but not let them publish evidence, or a contract, etc?

Being a small time guy, I had high hopes that SYR would be a viable shipping alternative for those of us that don't do enough business to justify jumping through the proper hoops to become FedEx certified. I'm not real big on the idea of taking it on faith that this service is fully legit..especially when the safety of our animals is at stake.
It sounds like this service doesn't really give us any better odds of success than we'd get taking our chances and saying "to hell" with any given shipping company's TOS. Without access to this waiver they claim to have..it seems to me that that's exactly what we'd be doing even if we used SYR.

As Robyn explained it to me this is still in a pilot program mode and that he is not able to release the documentation to the public. I fear that a bunch of people clamoring over this will shut down the program before it has a chance to take off. That will be unfortunate for many. Perhaps Robyn would be willing to forward a marked up copy of the letter to someone that will verify that it exists but will not post it. To me Robyn's years of excellence in this industry speaks more than a piece of paper.

As for the shipping incident...

Being Fedex certified I've had to pull out the certification almost every time I have dropped off a package -- I have had people still refuse my package -- I no longer drop off packages -- I've yet to have to provide one to the guys picking up the packages. Yes every package I send out is labeled next to the shipping label per Lacey specifications with scientific name, common name and qty in the box as well as on two sides -- I've never had one stopped. Other people have -- it's bound to happen irregardless of whether or not you have that almighty piece of paper. That is something that as a shipper you have to be prepared to deal with. If your local hub refuses to take the package that is within their rights -- they don't have to take it even if you have that piece of paper -- so you find one that will, have it picked up, whatever -- don't keep going back to the same one - move on - you work with what you have. It's not rocket science people.

What, exactly, does that mean 'pilot program mode'? Either UPS will ship snakes, or it will not ship snakes. Why would they keep it a secret? If the public is risking their snakes, they have a right to know.

I emailed UPS direct, and await their explanation.

Lucille, Could you post their response here?

You know I will. The site said I'd get a reply within 1 day. If they DON'T reply, I consider that significant also, because it means that the promise of a reply within a day would be broken and that would speak to how much one could count on their written word.

Someone else had contacted UPS about this and their email said:

UPS E-Mail said:
Thank you for your reply. There are limited UPS account numbers that have been set up on contracts to ship non-venomous snakes. The account number that generated the tracking number 1Z14W5620193907700 does not appear to have a contract. Accordingly, we would be unable to accept a package that contained non-venomous snakes.

The account number that has an active contract would have to generate the tracking number and ship the package in question. I apologize for any confusion this may cause.

Please contact us if you need any additional assistance.

UPS's policy is still that they won't ship snakes -- except on certain accounts -- this account/program that Robyn has is a new program that he is working with UPS on to see if it is a feasible program for UPS to adopt.

Tosha, you are handing out a lot of fuzzy talk 'pilot program mode' and 'working with...to see if it is a feasible program'. But apparently from the post from UPS from Lisa T, I gather that the bottom line is that there does not appear to be a contract, at least covering that transaction.

And Tosha, if it is Robyn's company, why are you acting as spokeperson?

I am going to call UPS myself and ask if SYR can ship snakes. I was planning on using them for some animals. But I can not risk anything happening to them for a mistake.

I really really hope things get worked out. SYR is a great idea and ran by a great company. but this speed bump is a big one IMO

Hey Gary, they aren't able to give you any specific info regarding our account, no more than if I called your credit card company and asked for your specific account info, I wouldn't get anything with that either, sorry.

We would love to have your business, 99.9% of shipments are smooth and without any issue at all. Give it a try : )

In all of the thousands of other shipments, the animals were all reported to have been received in good condition with correct genders, accurate counts, and thriving.

I guess it is human nature to focus on the worry free shipments, but what counts is what happens when things go south......

Robyn, is SYR going to continue to ignore the very direct questions asked?

No, I have already posted that I am not interested in playing this game with you. I have answered your questions a few times, on multiple forums. I don't think anything will please you, so again, please feel free to do business with FedEx, I understand that we can't satisfy you. But we tried.

In fact, earlier today you posted info to lead folks to believe that we did not follow through with a customer as we had said, that we didn't ship them supplies, or a refund check.

And yet I gave you the tracking info, showing that the package arrived, Next Day Air, as scheduled, and at our expense, 9am Friday morning. Last week. You haven't bopped back in to clarify that, or clear that up, so I don't think this is a fair conversation, I don't think you have fair intentions, and this is conversation is no longer a productive one.

I am happy to answer individual questions, and we are happy to continue our intensive customer service, but the best way to reach us is by direct email. I am going nuts trying to keep up with topics on multiple forums :yesnod:

Where am I acting as a spokesperson? Just passing along common knowledge -- maybe you should consider listening to Reptile Radio -- you'd be surprised what kind of really useful information you might pick up.
