Hello everyone, I'm Johanna from Chicago!

I've always been fascinated by snakes, but my father's threat of chopping up and eating any snake I brought into the house kind of kept me from having one til I was off the parental teat.

When I graduated and moved out, I knew I had to get something unique. I ended up going for an adult male Spider Ball Python I saw on craigslist. Though I initially intending to just look at the snake and think about it, maybe haggle the guy down a bit, the minute I set eyes on him I wordlessly handed my money over and brought him home.

Rorschach

That was a year ago, and now I'm the proud owner of four beautiful snakes.

I also have a female pastel named Pandora. I hope she's big enough to breed by next year!

Now that you've heard my life story... I look forward to getting to know all of you :D

I'm waiting for my Craigslist day to come by.. (well.. whatever leads me to my first ball python at least Haha).
What your dad said would be something that my dad would've said!! Too funny!

Welcome to Fauna! I'm pretty new here myself...
I hope Fauna will let your dreams flourish!

Ah a fellow Georgian! (and Asian) I'm born/raised in stone mountain. Twas a rather impulsive moment on my part... I didn't even have a tank for him... had to go to my avid herping friend who supplied me with his initial supplies :)

Haha! I loooved Stone Mountain!!
Man, asian people have it rough when it comes to snakes!! My mom think they're the devil's animals and really doesn't want me having a snake!

It's always good to have buddies that are into herps. There aren't really that many where I live. They think I'm some crazy asian chick that is really weird. It's really funny how they look at me once I say that I have a snake (she's a desert kingsnake, nothing big). Then they start telling me that she's going to grow bigger than me and eat me ( I'm 5'4" HAHA darn those asian genes...)! People are so funny...

Thanks Tails with scales! (What an amusing way to think of them...)

Shieny, got a couple of inches on you at 5'6. And I have definitely gotten the crazy Asian lady stereotype down to a science.

My mom thought my white fish were a bad omen because white is what you wear to a funeral according to her... She makes this lovely distasteful face when I talk about my hobbies (Which include fishing and collecting animal bones). My dad just doesn't like them for whatever reason.

Woooow. Hahaha. I think it's 'cause we were born in America, we're so open minded.

I've never heard about the white fish thing... HAHA.
I know in some cultures people wear white, but to go as far as saying that the color is related to a bad omen... hmm...
My mom does the same exact thing!! My sister took my snake and showed her and she was like, "Get that thing out of my room!!!!" Man... I feel like the rebellious kid in the family.
My dad's eaten (drank?) snake blood before I was born.. My mom told me about it and she stopped him once because she said that it was a omen/sin to do that to a powerful animal (I guess snakes have some king of significance in the cultures..?)

I just think it's outrageous to believe superstitions like that...

Agreed. My mom will occasionally say a bad luck something or bad feng shui something, but for the most part she's pretty level headed. I have actually had snake wine when I went to china (My teacher bought me a shot of it) was basically hard alcohol mixed with eviscerated snakes. yummy.

A thread filled with Asian women...me likey :reddevil:. We already have a forum here called "Hell" so this thread definitely needs to be named "Heaven" ;). Matter of fact...there is another very beautiful Asian member on here...lets hope she stops by to say a few words. (hint...hint...shinezilla)

Welcome ladies...this is a very nice forum and I'm sure you'll love it here. However.........

........I'm starting to believe that you two are not here to learn about snakes. Instead, it seems as if you're comparing recipes. :hehe:

How's it going Johanna! Let's be friends :D (creepster tone)
Are you planning on going to NARBC next week over at Tinley? Brian Potter is awesome, he owns Chicago Reptile House and runs/co-runs the NARBC.

psssst Muff Muff (Polasian)... I think you're pretty. Have a box of Claritin waiting for me.

Asians = Fun Sized!
Atleast you ladies are taller, I'm 5'3" :(

Yes, that is a Blue Beauty! Another funny story about lack of will. My best friend Lorelei, the avid herper and I went to the All Animal Expo in Wheaton (which is actually where my parents live) and agreed that we wouldn't buy anything.

Of course we see this 9'5 long rat snake cooped up on display in a 10 gallon tank. Her scales are gorgeous, her color is gorgeous, and she has this head that just whispers power and confidence (of course she's actually a snappy scaredy cat) so we take her out and start playing with her...

I believe the quote of that trip was Lorelei turning to me and saying "LET'S HAVE A SNAKE BABY!"

I wholeheartedly agreed.

Shinezilla, I didn't know there was going to be a show but I'll definitely look into it. That weekend is also capricon, one of my beloved nerdy sci-fi conventions. I keep hearing good things about Chicago Reptile House, I'll have to take a look sometime.

Oh hey, I go to the swaps in Wheaton all the time! I started going there when Lee Watson was around (RIP) and they were holding it at the old barn house. Are you planning on going this week?

Sci-Fi convention? Sounds fun... where's that going to be at? It's ok, I've been dying to go to an anime convention... Can't be worst than an anime geek.

Here's the link for the NARBC See if you can make it or atleast the auction... It gets rowdy =p

Maybe I'll see ya there?!

Yeah, I need to get food for my new hatchling BRB. I should be at the wheaton expo. The scifi con's in the yorktown mall westin. And yes, I also cannot wait until ACen.

Haha Thanks for the welcome. I'm really not interested in drinking some snake blood or whatever they do with them.. I don't think I'd ever bring myself to eat/drink one even if someone paid me...
I love snakes too much to do that.

Snake recipes...ewww.. haha
Some cultures probably use snakes as some kind of medicine.. I know my grampa use to collect lizards, starfish, and seahorses for medicine.. Weeeeiird...

LOL.. I'm only an inch taller... I wouldn't even consider myself taller 'cause it's practically the same!
I guess asians are fun sized! Wewt~

I guess I'm the tall one out of the group at a whopping 5'6... course I'm only a halfie. Dad's white. My sister's are 5'8 and 5'2 so we're all over the board.
