    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

To be honest I never ask for a better price. I either want the animals, or I don't, based upon the ad. If the seller can do better than it should be reflected in his ad IMO. That said, if I was the seller, I would just say that's the best price I've got, or something like that, if asked.

The only reason I am saying this is that I suspect you could research Jerry's buying habits and find a similar history.

Thats not to say that once you open a dialogue that a price negotiation can not occur... Even if its picking up the cost of shipping, its negotiated.... I deal that way, and I encourage others to do so as well.... far different then the email I received from this inexperienced kid !

I also offer a discount for cash, which is another method I employ , but these are all part of a system that I use to get the best price I can without insulting someone with a "better price on a first inquiry.."

Everything is based on your ability to pay or buy.. That is where your strength lies THERE IS NO USE IN GOING INTO A NEGOTIATION OUT OF WEAKNESS. that is what occured when I received this email... My feelings are not inconsistant with others who happen to be successful iin this field... There are some very serious sellers who dont want to be patronized by emails about a handout.....

One final note, The question arose about why I did not list the geckos as "sold" there is a very good reason for this, but I prefer not to answer it in a public forum.... Send me an email to my address: [email protected] and I will be more then delighted to respond, as I always do....

Incidentally this person who did send me these PM was asked in the original ad to direct any inquiries to me at the fruitflies address, which he did not do The term PM means private message... If you feel slighted in any way, I dont hide and can be reached either by my email or phone... but even if this poster felt it necessary to bring this to the attention of the BOI , I should have been contacted as this was not open to a wider audience other then he and myself......

Probably I didn't say that well. The point I was attempting to make was that the seller's best price should be in his ad. Then there's no point in asking for a better price.

Not in all cases. There are ads of letting people know that certain items are for sale, and you call for prices.. Even if an item is marked at a particular price, its not uncommon to have a variety of pairs available at different prices...Very common. the point being that some things are more negotiated then others... Basically, "if you take this, then I will do that" its fine .

Even as of this writing if you go to Kingsnake there are ads offering Cuban chameleons, but you have to call for prices.... So its not uncommon... Thats the hook... I dont like it, but its the service providers choice !

I had several Wheeleri's for sale at different stages in their lives but all unsexed. They were not at the same price. I would however consider a package deal.... But again this is negotiated... Not a problem...

Thats a far cry from where this thread is heading... I think you may realize that there may be some merit in being more structured when conducting a sale or even acknowledging an email from a perspective buyer...

Kmurphy, people do the strangest things on Kingsnake. Hide behind a shield of different names on different days. Its a very difficult way of conducting business when it involves trust of sending money sight unseen, and hoping all the pieces in the puzzle fit properly for a sale... The final outcome of course is to get what you paid for and that the animals are in the condition that you anticipated them to be in....

I dont have time, nor do I have the inclinaton of playing a guessing game... If I were to reduce my price everytime someone made an inquiry , I would in fact be owned by pulled by the nose.... You dont want to do business that way... Nobody does....

There are people like this moron who also posted here trying to justify a poor decision and he cannot even write or spell correctly.

the bottom line is that its your position , your aniimals. your terms... This poster should have or could have approached this scenario with a more business like approach and in turn, I would have responded favorably .

I agree with this. and I would like to add that I don't think its anyones job to change his mind. Jerry can choose to run his business the way he feels appropriate. He is not scamming or sending out sick animals. He tells it like it is. At least in his mind. I can respect that.

I am not saying I agree with the way he handled it , but the truth is Jerry has the right to run it how ever he pleases. It's not really anyones business to say be nice.

Walk into pets smart and ask them to drop their prices. Oh wait no one would do that its a retail business. Kinda like Jerry's I would think. There really isn't any difference. Just a lot of us are more flexible and decided on a certain method of customer service. Jerry chose his.

The point of the BOI is to be opened to a wider audience. The point of an INFO thread is to let others know the experiences people have had with others. This is not a BAD GUY thread, I would never give someone a bad guy post out of line, I simply posted an info thread. Exactly what it was meant for, useful info for others in the future considering doing business with you. I would also like to point out the fact that you obviously wanted to discuss nothing with me considering your last PM said "Do not respond".

I was not ready to make a purchase at that point, I was in the process of learning EVERYTHING I needed to know about the species before making a purchase. I actually just decided around a week ago that I do want to work with Nephurus for sure.

I didn't see the add in question, but I was under the impression haggling is considered pretty normal. I think it's part of the fun, personally. Usually one writes "FIRM" in the add if you don't want to hear other offers.

I'm not a fan of playing the game of haggling. Why don't people haggle say Wal Mart or the grocery store.

Most of the time even when you write "FIRM" people will shoot some unbelievable offers, that you have to sit back in your chair an laugh a little and think "wth was this person thinking!?"....then you have to think of a polite way to tell the person absolutely not in a polite way.
