Man Found Dead

A man was found dead Tuesday inside a house in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, that had dozens of venomous snakes, according to police.

Whole lotta what-the-fruitbat in this situation.

Also if you're going to keep hot snakes, do it where it's legal.

Kind of slick how the title of the story makes the reader associate death with venomous snakes even when in this case there is explicitly no link.

Also interesting is how the fact that a person died gets three quick sentences but the reptile issue fills the rest of the story. Would have more appropriately titled 'Dozens of reptiles, including venomous snakes, removed from PA man's home' since they hardly wanted to talk about the man's death.

To most of the outside world, herp keeping is an extreme aberration, and must be sensationalized when discovered.
After all, the house was “crawling” with them.

Yeah, if the guy had kept a lot of birds, at least fowl play would have been expected..... :rolleyes_

And if he had been an aquarist, the death would have been fishy?

We met these people the Saturday before this all happened at the Altoona PA Reptile expo... they seemed like nice people! They actually had some pretty cool venomous stuff that you usually dont see at the Altoona Expo... bummer they weren't legit tho! Hope everyone the best!

Dead man/venomous snakes -Reptiles returned to owner

The reptiles were returned to the owner, the city government returned them at the request of the owners attorney. The city saw no reason to hold them, as the reptiles were inventoried as evidence for the Court hearing already, and were moved to a (supposedly) permitted location outside the city limits. About a dozen of the reptiles died while confiscated and in the care of a city appointed pet store. The owner has pending charges for lack appropriate permits. The procedure in PA seems to work rationally. If this happened in Florida, the FWC would have pushed outrageous, exaggerated and false stories to the media, promoting themselves as the saviors of the human race and animals, and then, after leaving the reptiles in a locked parked car in the sun for a few hours, would shoot and beheaded all the reptiles(legal or not) in the name of protecting reptiles, before any Court hearing was possible.
