    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Tinfoil barbs dying, look terrible

    Not sure what’s happening here. They were eating voraciously just 2 days ago. Today my biggest died (about 4”) and the rest look terrible. All the other fish (zebra danios, silver dollars, pleco) are fine. See pictures: What’s happening and what can I do? Thank you.

    What lizard is this? (Boca Raton FL)

    Saw this near my home. Looks like a green iguana but the shape of the head is causing some confusion. Is it something else? See the attached pictures. Thanks in advance. -sgc2c

    South Florida turtle: please help identify

    These keep turning up in my yard and most recently in my pool in Boca Raton. They are usually the size pictured (size of a grown man’s thumbnail or so). What is it? In addition to baby softshells, these guys are ubiquitous and bold this year. This is maybe the third or fourth I’ve found, one...

    Two-tailed iguana??

    Saw this iguana here in Boca Raton Florida. Does this seriously happen? Is it some mutation? See the picture — thanks.

    Help identify another snake (Boca Raton, week of 10/2

    Here’s a small snake, not much bigger than my shoe seen in Boca Raton, Florida circa 10/25/21. It liked curling up in multiple ways, and sometimes appeared to play dead. I wondered if it was sick. It actually stayed around in that same exact place for 2-3 days but isn’t there anymore. Almost as...

    Another snake (Boca Raton FL 5/22/21)

    This snake hung around about 10 feet from where I was eating a sandwich at a picnic table in a public park. Stayed there a while (15 minutes plus) but didn’t bother us. Appeared to be collecting pine needles or something like it. Continually opened its mouth and seemed to try to pick up...

    Please help identify this lizard

    I saw this lizard in bushes at my home in Boca Raton, Florida. Doesn’t look like the usual three lizards we see around here: green iguana, anole and curly tail lizard. Anyone know what it is? No bigger than my index finger an probably weighed a lot less. Maybe a lissome 3-4 inches total. Thanks...

    Where to buy 20 Gallon Extra High Tank?

    I'm in South Florida (Boca Raton) and I cannot find a 20 gallon extra high (not "high" but "extra high"-- same footprint as a 10 gallon tank) tank anywhere. Looking for a new one. Major pet chains have (what else?) never heard of this tank size and form factor. I used to be able to get odd...

    Please identify this snake

    Seen near a pool in Boca Raton Florida on 8/5/18. Very small — no more than a foot or so long. Rescued from a pool and then released. Snapped at me a few times as I scooped him up off of the pool steps with a shovel but eventually got on without incident. Thanks for your help in identifying...

    Identify this gecko: or is it?

    Seen 9/30/17 in Boca Raton Florida near the Town Cenrer Nall. (Parking lot of Greenwise market). Is it a gecko? It's larger than the "geckos" we normally see around here, most of which are actually anoles or curly-tailed lizards. This almost looks like a brown basilisk except it's green. Any...

    ID this baby snake please

    Or at least I think it's a baby. Seen earlier this Summer near my pool in Boca Raton, Florida. I've seen black racers around but I think that's about it. Maybe saw a king snake once but wasn't sure. We live near the Town Center Mall so not exactly close to the Everglades. Thanks in advance.

    baby softshell not eating

    Found a baby softshell in my pool and am keeping it in a (very clean) circular shallow goldfish bowl (2.5 gallons I'm guessing). Turtle is barely the size of a half dollar piece. Bought it several ghost shrimp, and dropped in some ReptoMin baby turtle sticks, and I even broke them up a bit...

    help identify this snake

    Snake in picture is smaller than it appears. Found in a pool in Minneola Florida today. Friend wants to know if its dangerous to handle. Described as "black with orange/red ring around neck, red underside" but you can tell most of that from the picture. What do you think it is and what's a safe...

    all-black snakes in Florida?

    A 2-foot or so all-black snake slithered across the pool patio outside at my home here in Boca Raton FL. What all-black snakes are there that fit this description for this location? I'm guessing it is an Eastern Indigo Snake but was not able to get a picture in time. When it heard me coming...

    Please help identify this Florida snake

    Seen at a relative's home in Minneola, Florida. Photographed in a garage the other day; refuses to leave for some reason. Any reason to fear this snake? What type of snake is it?
