In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Wealth

What is important to me are family, friends, pets, and my education; and the ability to help others through my current and future careers. But, every once in a while I get a twinge of envy for the very wealthy. I was reading posts on a board devoted to English Bulldogs (I just acquired one...

    A 'Good tired' kinda day....

There are some days which are long and exhausting but don't end in a particularly notable way. Today is a 'good tired' kind of day, I woke early, got shelves and containers set up for the heat tape that's on the way so that the geckos can have more room, cooked the visiting teen one of his...

    Shea butter?

While I was doing research about dogs I found recommendations for dog bathing with soap made with oatmeal and shea butter. I went looking on Ebay and there are people who make handmade soap! So I ordered some oatmeal and shea butter handmade soap (can you tell how spoiled these dogs are?); but...

    Your opinion: Dog food

If all goes well, I am getting another member of the family tomorrow, a second dog who I am picking up at a local shelter :) My Shih Tzu, Muffin, must be lonely while I am away at work and school, and although I have a killer study schedule with more difficult classes next semester I have...

    Aggravation Poll

Some people seem even and laid back and are never aggravated by anything. Others have their knickers permanently in a knot and get aggravated by EVERYTHING. How about you?

    Mentors

Mentors are those with experience or knowledge, who offer their help to those who are new, or inexperienced. In a way, Fauna itself is a mentoring process, because those new to the hobby can ask and have answered their questions here on the forums. A true mentor relationship is somewhat more...

What do y'all think of this idea?

We all want Fauna to succeed and remain the premier community reptile site on the internet . Here's an idea I had today that I think might help: I was running around and doing errands, and had two long conversations this weekend with total strangers about reptiles; once when I bought...

    Frank's Geckos VERY Good Guy

I bought a group of geckos from Frank's Geckoes and they just arrived. They were enormous, healthy, and packaged perfectly. He was prompt, emailed tracking numbers, and followed up with a nice note to me just now, that I was welcome to contact him with any questions I might have about geckos...

    Custom Icons

It crossed my mind today how cute it would be to have a leo gecko icon. I'm not sure what exactly it would signify, but it would be cute and I could put a whole line of them after a leo post :) Then, I thought about all sorts of custom icons, made for and recognizable by the denizens of...

Just a FYI, anacondas in Houston

    Heart to Heart Talks

For me, heart to heart talks frequently take place in the kitchen. I have a good friend, she is 70 and does not care for reptiles, and she invites me over to her usually cluttered kitchen in her tiny house and she makes me coffee and often buys treats like cheesecake to share, and we sit and...

    Tats

In a recent poll, where I asked about what a reptile keeper OUGHT to look like, quite a few people selected the option that said 'tattoos'. I have a small, pretty tat of a rose on my left wrist, which fits under my watch when I am at work or at professional meetings. How about y'all? Who has...

    Common sense

No one who is honest would deny that there are one or two here who have managed to forget the common courtesies of life, and have with little provocation been contentious, rude and arrogant. Others, using buffoonery and mockery, delight in pissing contests for their own sake, creating havoc and...

    Introductions/Roll Call

This forum has been renamed, and we invite those new to Fauna to introduce themselves here, and say a little about who they are and their hobbies and avocations. If you've already been here for a while but never really gotten around to introducing yourself, even if you are already part of the...

    Karma?

Here's a definition I found online: "Karma is a sum of all that an individual has done and is currently doing. The effects of those deeds actively create present and future experiences, thus making one responsible for one's own life." Does Karma, for real, exist? I don't know. I just had...

    Britches

Some people stay part of a community for years and enjoy themselves and the community and remain pretty much the way they were. Others improve, losing shyness and gaining friends. Still others get too big for their britches, feeling that with familiarity they deserve to gain control. I am...

    Positive reinforcement

When my kids were growing up, I gave lots of positive reinforcement for good behavior. Hugs, compliments, and sometimes even bought stuff just to show that I appreciated the efforts my children made. I think people should do good things just because virtue is its own reward, but then again I...

    Playing hooky

I went to work but (shhhh) I decided not to go to class tonight because I am just exhausted from the combination of work and school (but happy I'm doing it). Different people do different stuff when they play hooky: some go to the mall, some go home and snooze, some just hang out in the garden...

    Flagging

First of all, I want to say that this idea is not necessarily one that could work here, I bring it here just as an interesting example of how other sites handle inappropriate behavior. I go from time to time to a site called Craigslist. It is a classified system where people get to list and...
