    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    First babies of new season, second season ever...

    Last season, I had babies from my 11 year old "hi yellow" and a young lavender-y more or less normal girl. This season, we have babies from an albino male, and SHTCT females. Our first two babies of this season:

    (Newbie) Question re: "studs"

    Is there a specific time of year that's best to be looking for a male (1-3 years old or so) to add to my collection, for breeding next year? Are there any hobbyist businesses that are more recommended/more likely to offer them for sale in particular? I'm assuming this is a really obvious thing...

    Specific Temp ?s

    I received my PE1 Temp Gun earlier this week, and have been shooting temps in all my cages. I have UTH in each of the 20L, plus 40-watt blacklights (just basic partylight from grocery store) in reflectors that're on a timer (so that they have a cool-down overnight). They're in the living room...

    Weird egg laying timing

    Tilly has been laying a clutch roughly once a month. She's in a 20L with her mate, and they get along incredibly well. They are so cute together. She laid her first viable clutch Feb 4 (those just hatched this week), and another March 3. Then she laid a clutch on March 19. Today, my 10 year...

    First baby for us

    Still trying to think of a name, with the help of my sons: Here's after being put in her new digs: The parents are Jake and Tilly; Jake is a high-yellow I bought from Pro Exotics 10 years ago (which is in Boulder - I was living briefly in MD at the time - I smuggled him home on the plane...

    Quick ? about mold on apples in with feeders

    Remembered from a recent thread that included something about mold being bad in the feeders because it's very bad for the geckos - I just changed out the apples in my feeders today (crickets and mealworms), and noticed that some of the apples were moldy. I tossed the apples and threw in that...

    Tangerine :: Hypo, super hypo...???

    Can someone explain what the visual criteria is for the different types of tangerine? The babies that I picked up are "hypo and super hypo" tangerines. In trying to figure it out by looking at the gorgeous geckos for sale on the breeder sites (Urban Gecko, for example) I'm only confusing myself...

    Couple Pix

    Here's a "headstudy" of one of the girls we picked up from Wyoming this weekend (Xena, Lizard Princess): Here's another shot of Xena (the photo is really dark - hubby had his hand over the flash; her colors look a touch more saturated than they are in regular light): Zelda (I'm sorta casually...

    How often do you handle your Leos?

    I've had my main man, Jake, since he was a baby, back in '95. I've always handled him a lot, and he's been fine. However, we have eight new Leos, ranging in age from a couple months to a little over a year. All are relatively new acquisitions (four albino babies over the last two months, and...

    Where to buy bulk crickets?

    I tried searching on the BOI, and in here, but not so much luck. Didn't want to post anywhere but here, since all I have is Leos and you all have such gorgeous beasties, so hope this is okay...for those of you that buy bulk, which company do you use? I thought about Wormman, but saw some...

    Question on colors

    In perusing different websites with Geckos for sale, I've noticed that some *appear* to have the same coloring/pattern, but different names. For example, the beautiful Bell lizards that have the very cool distinctive stripes and spots patterns and coloration. Then I ran across something listed...

    Leucistic?

    We were on our way back from WY with four tangerine babies, and stopped at a Petsmart, where they had a baby in a cage marked "Leucistic." The baby was a solid greyish, and VERY beautiful. I've only seen that word referencing snake color morphs. I haven't seen leucistic leos on breeder...

    Carpet vs. Tile

    We purchased some really short-pile, looped indoor-outdoor carpet type stuff at the local hardware store yesterday. As it was getting cut, I told my husband I was worried about their little toenails getting caught in it. The pile is very short, light, and flat, but I still worry. Is this sort...

    Undertank heat

    What's the best, most economical undertank heat supply for Leos? I was looking at the Flexwatt, but that looks cost prohibitive because of the necessity of the thermostat. I only have 4 cages right now, and don't anticipate more than a couple more. Would the Zoomed UTH type things for $20 a...

    Breeding principles

    As a hobbyist who's interested in doing some small-scale breeding, I'm wondering what the general consensus is with "backyard breeding." Horses are what I'm familiar with, and certain breeds are forbidden to outcross with other breeds. A lot of "backyard breeders" do this anyway, and the result...
