Just butchered my first batch of birds, and wouldn't go near the factory farmed stuff with a ten foot pole. Yeah I know, not everyone has the luxury of raising birds in their yard. But I'd at least go local. Just about everyone has someone near them raising birds organically for meat, or at least a co-op or farmer's market. Or heck maybe the grocery store has some locally grown meat.
The problem with the factory slaughterhouses is just the sheer number of animals they process daily. Things slip by, despite the best of intentions. I've hauled a lot of chicken, and have spent time at the slaughterhouses waiting. It's truly nauseating.
If you can get away from it, do.
