In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Tom Crutchfield: Greatest Reptile Dealer of All Time?

Burst some bubbles...

I would like to share my last two deals I did with Crutchfield in 1987. For a very brief period I bought wholesale and would resell to local petshops. I ordered from a variety of sources and decided to give Tom a try. Most of the lizards I received were on deaths door. I decided that I wouldn't deal with him again. then a few months later he was offering baby King Cobras guarenteed to be feeding on pinkies. I traded him a breeding pair of Queensland Carpet Pythons for one of these snakes. The snake was shipped in a deli cup surrounded by newspaper packed in a styrofoam box! :no_evil01 The snake refused to eat even when I offered snakes and lizards. It died in 10 days. That was the last time I dealt with Tom for more than one reason. :no01:

TIM, it just seems to make sense to me that

if you encountered a problem with a shipper regardless of who he was, and the animals arrived at "deaths door" how do you continue to do business with that person before you resolve your prior experiences with that same dealer.
I am not attempting to make excuses for Tom, but you had choices to make and these were based on your decisions knowing full well that you already experienced some problems .

Bubble wand magic !

The last shipment I recieved from Tom, gosh, about 18 years ago, was of a group of south american vine snakes that were in perfect condition, bred consistently for the next 5 years, and ate like crazy...no worms, do deaths...nothing. Prior to that, all of the animals that I had gotten from Herpetofauna were in good condition, and I still see a pair of pythons purchased a waaaaaaaay long time ago over at a friend's house...all doing just fine !
Just like life in general...good and bad.

Tim,

I don't think IATA, nor airlines had regs in 1987 that venomous reptiles had to be shipped in wooden boxes. However, I'm not sure. Besides that, he saved you a $25.00 box fee! LOL!

Anyone heard of 2nd chance?

I thought I would give him a second chance. I thought wrong. My mistake.

Just so you know, I respect anyone who posts on this subject that disagrees with my theories or wants to tell about a bad deal with Tom. As long as you are civil, I will not and have not bashed anyone who posts here.

Where and when was that photo taken, do you know? Cause the "kid" in the front looks like a guy I went to high school with and he is a prominent member of the BOI.

Chris,

If memory serves me right (don't want to go back and read the whole thread) it was stated earlier in this thread that he was already doing some shows.

Regards.

I wish I was still as skinny as "the kid".

He is now well known and talked about on the BOI.

I can't hardly believe it! Maybe he was entrapped and screwed by Wildlife??? I would like to know a lot more. He is a legend and a very, very kind man.

wow!

Why would anyone , especially Don who, I happen to see yearly at Daytona get himself mixed up in this kind of a situation. The penalties are harsh, and I dont relish being in his shoes. You would think that he would have been smart enough not to jeapordize his entire business , not to mention the enormous burden on his family.

Don hamper

This is horrible FW are cracking down all over don was a good guy and its a bummer something like this had to happen :crap:

This is a perfect example

of what the haters of the herp industry relish. To make matters worse, for those of you who may know Don, I dont think prison life is going to be condusive to a man of that age, size, etc. He is not a stupid person, so I am mistified that he would endanger himself in this kind of an escapade after being in the business this long. Eventually these things catch up to you. In todays market , you never know whom you are dealing with.

I heard that a lot of people got caught in that sting...

with cb animals, many were albinos and other morphs. Some didn't realize it applied to cb or morphs as well (it SHOULDN'T!). At least one person I know had to pay a fine for selling licorice stick black rat snakes. I don't know if that was the case with Don or not.
