This not always so. I have seen females take the initiative, sexually .
In one case, The SFCRC had a female skink named Opacus that lost her mate and was alone for awhile. When a male was introduced, she took the initiative immediately and pursued the male who was not interested at first. She kept snuggling along side the male. Within 30 minutes, he became receptive and mating occurred. The male used his left hemipene in the mating process.
