A good one is Ophiopogan "Kyoto Dwarf" or common name is Dwf Mondo Grass, but I think you are too cold for it. Do not think it likes much below zone 8 How about Pacysandra or Vinca minor. Ajuga I think would be hardy also as well as some hostas. All of these should be readily available in your area if they will grow there. Guessing you are zone 6 maybe colder.
