Adult Female King Rat Snake (elaphe carinata)

The time has come for me to make some decisions and make some choices. I need to scale back some of my colubrids, have too many king rats and even though this is my biggest female and my breeding sized girl, I'm going to part with her and wait for my other two girls to come into breeding age.

This female has produced fertile eggs in my care but unfortunately they were lost in an accident.

She eats frozen thawed rats, mice, chicks, anything you can offer her she eats it. She IS a bit shy and may take a month or two to start eating from your tongs after being moved. If you just lay the food in next to her she will usually take it if she is being persnickety about the tongs. But currently, I lift her hide and slip the food in and she SLAMS it.

Her name is Venus, and please understand that she is not afraid to tear you a new one. King rat snakes, especially larger ones, are not a beginner animal. They are fast, visually oriented snakes that bite first and ask questions later. Even tame king rats are very "wiggly" snakes in that they constantly feel the need to be moving and huffing and puffing while handled. Their skin is rough like sandpaper and they are powerful animals that prefer to overpower their food and swallow it as quickly as possible. Please do not buy a king rat snake expecting it to be anything like a rat snake. Expect something along the lines of a large angry bull snake crossed with an indigo snake.

Venus can be handled with ease without taking any bites as long as you are respectful of her. She's not an aggressive snake and would rather flee than stand her ground, but she WILL lash out at you if she feels threatened or cornered. She absolutely requires at least one snug hide area to feel secure. My king rats all love the XL exoterra caves in particular.

She has no outward markings on her that take away from her appearance or indicate that she was wild caught. I do not know her history for certain, but I would bet that she is a captive bred animal, judging by her demeanor and her scar-less body.

She has been in my collection for about 2 years. She is a rock solid snake and I am very, very adamant that she goes to a good home.

$300 FIRM - Shipping is not included - shipping via SYR/fedex

Low-ballers will be ignored. I am in no hurry to sell her. I am looking for a straightforward, no-nonsense kind of transaction with an educated buyer who will care very well for this amazing snake.

Some Trades will be considered if they are worth my while and something I've been looking for. GTP's in particular. No ball pythons or BCI's please.

Side note: If you REALLY would like a pair, I MAY be persuaded to let one of my males go.
