Transport Van

Up for sale is a 1971 Jeep M109A3 2.5-ton military truck with a 12' van box on the back. Box is insulated and wired with both 24V and 115V with an input for land-line power. It also has 6-wheel-drive, a multifuel 6-cylinder engine (runs well off diesel, gasoline, kerosene, and jet fuel), 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive, and an air-shift transfer case to lock in the front axle. This is the ultimate transport vehicle for expos, field herping, camping, or expeditions. Engine has about 150 hours on it currently, and entire vehicle was refurbished earlier this decade in the Army's extended service program. It is missing the glass out of two of the back windows, but this can easily be replaced. Other than that, everything is in good shape. I personally drove this vehicle from South Carolina's coast to my home in Alabama with no problems. Only reason I am willing to part with it is I have 6 of these big trucks, and want to build a new herp building at my Florida home. These trucks were built to take a beating and come back for more, and they are very easy to work on. Asking $4950 OBO, or will consider all reasonable trades.
One other thing I might mention here is fuel economy. This truck gets about 11-12 MPG on diesel. If you run regular gas, you will lose some power, as it has to do with the shape of the piston crown. Anyway, what most owners do is add 1 qt of filtered WMO (Waste Motor Oil) per every 15 gallons of regular gas, and she will run just like you paid the extra for diesel with all the power and sound included. I save all my motor oil from changes on anything from my wife's car to our riding mower, then run it through a dual oil filter into gallon jugs. I add one of those gallon jugs to a fillup of regular gas when I refill the 50-gal tank on the truck's lower passenger side, so that way it is fairly cheap to drive one of these. Insurance is also cheap. I have mine all ensured with Nationwide for about $300 per year as antiques. Any questions, please feel free to email me at akonitony@att.net.
