I don't think it's degrading or humiliating to participate in a bug eating contest. People do eating contests all the time, and they can get quite disgusting even with "normal" food items. I think it's clear that most people are repelled by the thought of eating roaches, so you've got a better chance of winning if you aren't bothered by them. Some people literally don't care and they'd do it just for fun or shock value. There isn't anything wrong with that.
