Warnings vs Infractions (for those that don't know the difference)

Apparently, "some members" don't quite get the difference between a warning and an infraction. In simplest terms, a warning is just that - a message that indicates a problem with a post. There is no penalty associated with a warning - except perhaps to one's ego - but it should be taken for granted that, if the member continues to post in such a manner, things will be taken further.
That next step is an infraction. An infraction comes complete with "points", and an accumulation of infraction points can lead to being banned.

It isn't really hard to tell which is which, either. When a moderator issues one, a system generated PM goes out to the member. The title of that PM is the first clue...one says "You have received a warning at FaunaClassifieds" , and the other says "You have received an infraction at FaunaClassifieds" . (See the difference? )
But wait, there's more....
The body of a warning looks like this:
Quote:
Dear xxxxxxxx,

You have received a warning at FaunaClassifieds.

Reason:
-------
Inapropriate advertising or spamming

<This space is for a message from the moderator, to the member, which I have removed for this example>
-------

Original Post:
http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/forums/xxxxxxxxxxx

Quote:
<This space would show the post that the warning was issued for>

Warnings serve as a reminder to you of the forum's rules, which you are expected to understand and follow. (I bolded this because it is important to this post)

All the best,
FaunaClassifieds
An infraction reads like this:
Quote:
You have received an infraction at FaunaClassifieds

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear xxxxxx,

You have received an infraction at FaunaClassifieds.

Reason: Overly abusive towards other Member(s)
-------
<moderator's message to sender>
-------

This infraction is worth 1 point(s) and may result in restricted access until it expires. Serious infractions will never expire. (bolded, as this statement does not appear in a warning)

Original Post:

Quote:
<the original post, which earned the infraction>

All the best,

Quite likely, most of the confusion will stem from the fact that the previous method of rule enforcement here was called the "Warning System", under which warnings included accumulating points that can lead to banning. The Infraction System is a much better system in that it leave the enforcement of the rules some discretion in how the notice will be delivered to the person making the infraction. And unlike the "Warning System", infraction points can be set to expire after a period of time.

So this is NOT the old system, but certainly it's going to take a long while before the difference will be understood.

Why the change? Well, that's an easy one. The old Warning System was a custom programmed module that my programmer had to install and maintain for me. This new Infraction System is already included in the base vBulletin software, which certainly helps me to not have yet another custom chunk of code I need to pay to have rewritten during every software upgrade.
